Effective Saturday June 8 1963 the lobby of the Post Office will be closed at 5 30 P M Monday through Saturday William E Alexander Postmaster.
Mr and Mrs A W Winfield returned to Carthage Wednesday night after a ten day trip to Austin Texas to visit daughter and family Mr and Mrs J Spencer Lloyd and Susan They attended the Austin High School Commencement on May 29 where Susan graduated with six hundred in the class.
The Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority hosted a public luncheon card party at the Community Center on Wednesday afternoon. About sixty members and guests attended, enjoying decorated tables and games of bridge ouchre and canasta. Prizes were awarded for the highest scores at each table.
Delores Ann Earnest, Rushville High School graduate of 1963 and daughter of Mr and Mrs Dale Earnest of Carthage R R 2, receives the Kap pa Kappa Sigma Nurse's Scholarship. She plans to enter Ball Memorial School of Nursing this fall.
Dr. George B. McNabb of here entered his 1924 Chrysler touring car in the 500 Festival Parade in Indianapolis on Tuesday evening May 28. He rode with his son Dr. Richard McNabb and another son David. Each antique entrant received a plaque with owner name car make and year.
The Carthage Radio and Appliance Shop participates in Fri Gidaire Week from June 6 to June 17 offering color Frigidaire units at white prices and generous trade in allowances on old models. Visit during the ten day event for special prices and deals.
Mr and Mrs Donald Stoten Sr and Mr and Mrs Herkless appeared on the WIBC radio Pick A Pocket show hosted by Jim Shelton and were awarded a prize.
Mr and Mrs Charles Whitfield of Carthage R A 2 attended the dinner meeting of the 10th District Rural Letter Carriers Saturday night at Connersville held in the Boys Club building.
Mr and Mrs Paul Scott were weekend guests of Mr and Mrs Robert Daniels at Merom Indiana for the centennial celebration of Merom F A M Lodge and Scott's sister Mrs Nora Pierson in Terre Haute.
Mr and Mrs Allen Wood and their son Stephen of Lafayette relocate to Palo Alto California for future residence Mrs Wood is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Cecil Pike of Carthage R1.
Born last Thursday at Rush Memorial Hospital in Rushville a son to Mr and Mrs Larry Thompson of Carthage.
Three Carthage ministers and their families met last Saturday for a picnic at Fletcher Methodist parsonage. Rev C C Fields retiring this year joins Rev Kenneth Shirk and Rev Timothy Straub as they prepare to relocate in the fall. The group, hosted by Rev and Mrs Jack Wallace, discussed town canvass work and church outreach while wives cooked and children played.
Northeastern Indiana reports clear streams and excellent fishing with bluegills eight to nine inches caught on peppers and redworms and trout activity rising as rice catches emerge. In central and western districts fishing remains good with crappies bluegills bass and catfish taken using worms minnows jigs and artificial baits. Louis White, son of Center Township residents, to join Purdue University as Rush County extension apprentice for summer duties from June 1 to August 3 assisting 4H and training in adult extension programs.
Memorial Day guests included Mr. and Mrs. Darrell McNutt and family from Pendleton. Kelly Veach of Indianapolis spent the weekend with his mother Mrs. Howard Windsor and family.
Ethel Hampton age 82 of Bedford died Monday evening at Dunn Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was mother to five children and grandmother to 30, with 52 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren. Four children predeceased her. Services Friday at 10 am at Dayland Carter Funeral Home Bedford with burial Beech Grove Cemetery.
The Carthage Legion Auxiliary held its regular meeting at the Community Center with Mrs. Delmer Sipes and Mrs. Kenneth Rhodes as hostesses. Mrs. Sipes presided as reports on the Cancer Drive and Poppy Sales were given. Officers elected include president Mrs. Forrest Nabb historian Mrs. Robert Jackson sgt at arms Mrs. Sam Nigh. The executive committee will attend the August convention at French Lick Hotel with members including Mrs. Forrest Beck and Mrs. Delmer Sipes and alternates. Refreshments were served.
The Carthage Home Garden Club presents a spring flower show at the Community Centers on Thursday June 13 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM. The theme is There's No Place Like Indiana with artistic arrangements horticulture specimens and house plants. Three accredited judges will judge the exhibits and refreshments will be served. The public is invited to attend for a profitable afternoon with club members.

Miss May Olive Finch of Carthage married Max Staley Riddle of Knightstown on Friday May 31 in Livingston Tennessee. Parents of the bride are Mr and Mrs Howard Finch of Carthage and parents of the groom are Mr and Mrs Jess Riddle of Knightstown. The vows were read before close family. The groom is a 1962 Knightstown graduate and works at the ISSC Home near Knightstown. They will reside on R R 2 Carthage.
Indianapolis officials urge extra caution as summer biking rises. J E Nicholas of the Indiana Motor Truck Association warns parents and drivers to protect children by obeying traffic laws using cycle paths riding straight and single file and ensuring bikes are properly equipped and sized.
Mrs. Gertrude I McCauley 65 and Jesse L Wadeking both of Bedford Indiana were killed in a auto train collision near Bedford last Thursday evening. Mrs Lupato of Tell City formerly resident here is a daughter and one granddaughter. Mr Lupato also mourns the death of his father reported Tuesday.

Miss Fran Woy of Indianapolis and Chattanooga guest of honor at a miscellaneous bridal shower honoring her as bride elect of James Terhune. The May 31 event at Mrs. Roscoe Brown’s home featured a white wedding bell table theme, 24 attendees, a song by Carol Carver, and gifts registered by Mrs. Lloyd Coffman.
Thirty members and children of the Methodist Ergon Class attended a chicken barbecue and cooperative dinner at the church annex hosted by Stan and Annalee Lynch. Rev. Jack Wallace led devotions and presided while Eugene R. Gardner served as secretary pro tem and treasurer’s report was given. A business meeting approved an auction for the forthcoming church fair with Bob Winters and Stan Lynch as committee. Mrs Shirley Lukens was elected teacher with Bob Winters as alternate. A social followed.
Keith Shelton, Morristown High School track and cross country coach for 17 years, announced his resignation from coaching duties effective at the end of the current school year. He will remain a teacher and athletic director. The district noted no successor yet.

Paul Turner graduates from Marion College with an AB degree in a 10:00 a.m. commencement in the College Church. Indiana Supreme Court Justice Harold E. Actor delivers the address. Turner will continue additional work in the summer session at Marion College.
John E. Carr known as Jack, son of Mr and Mrs A J Carr of Knightstown R F D 2, received his PhD in psychology at Syracuse University on June 2 1963. He is a Carthage Elementary and Knightstown High School alumnus with degrees from Earlham College and Syracuse University. He belongs to Carthage Friends Meeting and is nephew of Mrs Michael Kyser.
Stephen P. Hunt of Lafayette, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sharon Hunt of Carthage R A 1, earned a BS degree in Science at Purdue University commencement exercises Sunday afternoon. The Hunt and Shutt families gathered later for a dinner party with guests including Stephen Hunt and family, Sharon Hunt and family, and Russell Shutt Jr.
They traveled to Midwest City Oklahoma to join their son and family Major and Mrs Forrest Moore Jr for the graduation exercises of Stephen Moore among 500 graduates in Oklahoma City. Stephen then returned to Indiana with them for a visit.
The Methodist Church Bible School will close with a program on Sunday June 9 at 7 p.m. Crafts from the two week session will be displayed in the league room after the program with a reception in the annex. Staff invite all parents relatives and friends to attend.
Mn and Mrs. Tom McClurg sold their south Carthage home and 16 acres to Mr. and Mrs. Leon Whitfield who plan to move around July 1. The McClurgs will relocate to the former Russell Reddick home on R. 2 after selling their own property.
The Carthage Better Business Association met at Geise's Restaurant at noon Tuesday for their regular session. A date for the next Sidewalk Sale was announced.
