The memo lists visits and events around Carthage and nearby towns. W Pusey and family return from Florida. Nel son White's grandson buys the grandfather’s house. many outings to Indianapolis Speedway events and local gatherings are noted. A child’s birth, engagements, illnesses, and arrivals in hotels or at homes fill the week.
Children Day observed at 730 p.m. in Friends Church and at East Street Christian Church. Rush county Sunday school convention held in Rushville. Choir performances and solos by Helen Overman and LaVaughn Sears highlighted the services. Various church groups held meetings with local women and ministers attending the Arlington District Epworth League Convention where M C B Mason spoke on Napoleon at Waterloo.
Mrs Kate Conde Smith visits in Lar ned en route to Anderson. Carthagenians report a nine oclock Monday shooting star leaving a bright north south trail like lightning. Town Council elects Howard E Henley as school trustee to replace retiring William Bundy. Fire cistern committee continued. merchants urged to limit fireworks until July 4 morning.
Mrs Alice Bundy and Mrs Mattie Mc Curdy of Richmond joined folk from nearby towns for Decoration Day events. Social visits included Miss Lena Brandy hosting at Spiceland and a banquet in Rushville. Several residents traveled for family activities and gatherings across Kokomo, Greenfield, Carthage, and Greensboro.
Mrs Margaret Morton stayed in Anderson from Tuesday to Thursday. Aunt Ruth A Henley visited her son Reuben Henley and family Sunday. Nora and Rose Henley were guests. Lindley Clark Russell Winslow Edward Leonard and Misses Anna McVicker Earlham Jo nes Fairmount Gertrude Pierce from Michigan joined Miss Abbie Clark and Miss Grace Wins for the informal gathering.
Oliver Riley Henley son of Mr and Mrs Charles Henley died May 8 in Burma India from heart disease at 41. Born near Carthage he worked for Chicago Gas and Oil Company from 1892 in many states and two years in Mexico. He later became superintendent of the Windu oil field with Burma Oil Co Limited. He left an estate valued at 40000 and was unmarried. Government efforts to bring his body home were blocked by tropical sanitary rules requiring burial before exhumation.
The executrix Florence B Hunt is qualified by the Circuit Court as administratrix of the estate of Ann H Hunt, deceased in Rush County Indiana. The estate is declared solvent. May 25 1912.
Arthur Binford of New Castle spent a week visiting his father Rev. John M. Binford and family near Walnut Ridge. Miss Helen Gause was in Indianapolis this week.
Classified ads list good 8 and 6 room houses with outbuildings wells and fruit, old newspapers and carbon paper for sale, three section rollers, postcards at Denton and Moore, Red Cedar posts, J F Tweedy, Moore and Cooper insurance, Justus the Tailor dry cleaning, and sweet potato plants for sale with delivery and barter options in Knightstown and Arlington Indiana.
Mr and Mrs Van Hood were in Indianapolis Tuesday. Supr.-elect S. B. Walker and Prof. Roy Wisehart of Pendleton were here Monday to review next year’s schoolwork. Miss Evalyn Lewis, substituting for Mary Folger at the Carthage Telephone exchange, has been absent since Saturday due to illness.
