Children and church events mark weekend services

Children Day observed at 730 p.m. in Friends Church and at East Street Christian Church. Rush county Sunday school convention held in Rushville. Choir performances and solos by Helen Overman and LaVaughn Sears highlighted the services. Various church groups held meetings with local women and ministers attending the Arlington District Epworth League Convention where M C B Mason spoke on Napoleon at Waterloo.

Shooting Star Seen Over Carthage Andover

Mrs Kate Conde Smith visits in Lar ned en route to Anderson. Carthagenians report a nine oclock Monday shooting star leaving a bright north south trail like lightning. Town Council elects Howard E Henley as school trustee to replace retiring William Bundy. Fire cistern committee continued. merchants urged to limit fireworks until July 4 morning.

Local Residents Attend Decoration Day Gatherings

Mrs Alice Bundy and Mrs Mattie Mc Curdy of Richmond joined folk from nearby towns for Decoration Day events. Social visits included Miss Lena Brandy hosting at Spiceland and a banquet in Rushville. Several residents traveled for family activities and gatherings across Kokomo, Greenfield, Carthage, and Greensboro.

Died in Indian Burma Henley was a Carthage native

Oliver Riley Henley son of Mr and Mrs Charles Henley died May 8 in Burma India from heart disease at 41. Born near Carthage he worked for Chicago Gas and Oil Company from 1892 in many states and two years in Mexico. He later became superintendent of the Windu oil field with Burma Oil Co Limited. He left an estate valued at 40000 and was unmarried. Government efforts to bring his body home were blocked by tropical sanitary rules requiring burial before exhumation.
