Mothers are reminded to keep appointments for children's pictures taken today from 10 am to 5 pm at the Community Center for the Carthage Citizen feature Citizens of Tomorrow. Those without an appointment may bring children to the center for pictures at no charge.
The Lion's Club expresses thanks to citizens for support and attendance at the Fish Fry on July 15 and 16. They report a net of $190.55, to be reinvested in local projects.
Mrs Thomas Shields of Carth age with her daughters Pennina and Charity Ann won first place in the adult Homemaker division at the Rush County Fair on Thursday.
Mr and Mrs Lake Logan their daughter Mrs Donald McColley and sons from Carthage spent Thursday to Saturday visiting Mrs Anna Spence, Mrs Logan's mother, in Fitch Kentucky and other area relatives and friends.
Saturday visitors joined the McCorkle family and daughter Pat for a Dance Revue by Miss Pat McCorkle's students at the Community Center. Guests included Becky McCorkle and Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Hileman of Indianapolis, Mrs. Louise Wager and daughter Diane of Mays, Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Montgomery of Homer, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pea and family of Rushville.
Mr and Mrs Leon Whitfield and children Patla Theresa and Greg enjoyed a week long camping vacation in Kentucky returning home July 18 on R 2 Carthage Overnight camps were at Cumberland Falls Pine Mountain State Park and Boonesborough State Park en route to Indiana.
Mrs Mary Meloy Smeltzly a Grade 2 teacher at Carthage after an eight week Remedial Reading course plans a trip to St Louis to see her son Stuart and family and meet the newest grandchild Stuart Jr born June 5. The baby has a 3 year old sister Valerie Ann.
Mr and Mrs Woodrow Clay and daughter Tressia wrapped up a weeklong vacation with his brother and wife Mr and Mrs Alex Clay and their son Mr and Mrs Kenneth Clay in Hazard Kentucky.
Joseph Alexander returned home last Friday from Henry Co hospital. Mrs Hattie Porter moved from Rush Memorial Hospital to Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis. Mrs Grace Gurley remains a patient at Rush Memorial Hospital. Mrs Myrtle Henley is a patient at Rush Memorial Hospital.
Mrs Jessie McGeorge flew home by plane Saturday after spending three and a half months in California with daughters Mrs George Webster in Anaheim and Mrs Herbert Watkins in Santa Ana. Mr and Mrs Webster drove to Indiana to visit her mother and other friends for a few weeks.
Mr. and Mrs Vernon Jackson and Mr. and Mrs Autrey Lun s ford of Carthage returned ten days ago from a two week vacation. They visited Mr. Jacksons brother Mr Victor Jr Jackson in Morton Texas and also visited in New Mexico.
Mr and Mrs Jack Lynch and their children Ricky and Brenda of Carthage left Sunday to establish a future residence in Mobridge South Dakota.
Carthage school squads finished summer play with varied records. Little League went 10-2, Junior High 12-2, and High School 5-16 underclassmen showed promise. In Rush County Milroy led at 19-1, New Palestine defeated Carthage 3-2 after a prior 3-0 shutout, and Carthage lost several close games in a busy schedule.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Myers of Temple City California have stayed two weeks in Indianapolis and leave today by plane. They visited her brother Paul Clevidence in the first week and spent the second week with Mr. and Mrs. Gene Wilson and their sons. Last Friday the group visited southern Indiana Kentucky and Madison with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hearne and daughter.
Mrs. Tressia Clay of Jackson Kentucky and Mrs. Henry Strong with daughter Judy of Owensville Kentucky spent a week with Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Clay and family and other relatives before returning Sunday. Also visiting were Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Dalrymple of Andersonville. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. John Hurd of Fortville and Mr. and Mrs. Opha Denny of Indianapolis visited the Clay home.
Mr and Mrs Robert Jackson of Carthage celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a southern trip. Married July 23 1940 they visited Jacksonville Florida St Augustine Florida Kannapolis North Carolina Gatlinburg Tennessee and returned home last Friday.
Delbert Kramer of Rushville will join thirty-one top Indiana Future Farmers and Future Homemakers on an all expense paid Educational Youth Tour to Washington D C August 1 through August 7. The group includes Indiana F F A and F H A leaders and will feature a luncheon with the Indiana Congressional Delegation and a visit to the Rural Electric Cooperative Association headquarters. Delbert, sectional F F A president for Section 3, attends New Salem High School with twin Albert Kramer. both plan to attend Jacksonville University.
County fair results feature numerous 4-H winners across divisions. Wayne Hoffman, Steve Edwards lead Blue Ribbon groups in Wildlife Division I and II, with many notable exhibitor accolades in soil and water conservation, entomology, forestry, weeds, photography, crafts, and garden categories.
The Junior Ripley Boosters 4H Club meeting opened with president Marty Matlock. Tom Muir led the pledge to the American flag and Max DeWees led the 4H flag pledge. Jerry B. Dixon reports 19 members and 2 guests Carl Dulake and Cathy Wright attended.
A bridal shower for Miss Sue Barrett was hosted Sunday afternoon at Mrs. Richard Harner’s home in Lafayette. Blue and white decor matched the brides colors as twenty guests enjoyed refreshments and gifts for the honoree. Attending from Carthage were Mrs. Elmer Fenner and Mrs. Esta Fenner. The bride elect is to wed Larry Fenner of Carthage R. 1.
Members of the Christian Women's Fellowship meet at the church on Thursday August 5 at 9 30 am for a trip to the Mission building in Indianapolis. Transportation will be provided for all members.
Howard Logan 18 of Carthage suffered severe cuts and bruising to his left hand when caught in a 10 ton press at New Castle Products 501 New York Ave He was treated at Henry County Hospital and released after examination by the First Aid Unit.
The Ripley Township Advisory Board met on July 1 to review possible consolidation with Rushville Consolidated, Eastern Hancock, or Charles A. Beard Schools. Most residents favor Charles A. Beard, but a majority remains undecided. The board will not act now and warns of rising costs and potential tax impacts while urging local input.
Representative John A. Ruby elected President of the Indiana Young Democrats at the 14th biennial convention in Indianapolis. The unanimous vote caps a three month campaign during which Ruby toured 92 counties to promote his Victory Unlimited program. He urged colleagues to build an organization delivering active, compassionate, progressive leadership for Indiana.
Mr and Mrs Richard Bonne of Carthage announce the birth of a daughter Charmianne weighing 11 pounds 3 1/2 ounces on Saturday at Rush Memorial Hospital. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Carl Miller of Carthage and Mr and Mrs Richard Bonne Sr of Rushville.
The Women's Society of Christian Service plans a gathering on Wednesday August 4 1965 at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church. Mrs Raymond Ken leads the program and a babysitter will be available for parents needing childcare.
The final session of the remedial reading program at Carthage High School drew 40 attendees with six Mays pupils among the participants. The course emphasized phonics, word attack, and reading comprehension for grades 3 through 9, with many pupils taking home books and improving writing and spelling.
The Mary Sleeth Scholarship Committee grants a scholarship to Arlene Kaye Ruby valedictorian of the Class of 1965. She has been accepted by the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Ruby of Carthage.
