Goblin visit to Riley grave sparks Greenfield protest
A Greenfield delegation led by Mayor Arthur Downing visited Crown Hill cemetery on a Monday to honor James Whitcomb Riley. They repaired weeds and plantain around the poet’s tomb while a youth group carried blades in a symbolic cleaning. The trip underscores Greenfield’s long bid to honor Riley despite Indianapolis’ burial choice.
