Odell I Pitts 21, aviation radioman third class, has completed a tour in the Atlantic with Patrol Bombing Squadron 212. He flew long range patrols against U boats and enemy ships to keep sea lanes open for Europe supplies. He is the son of Mrs. Margaret E Pitts of Knightstown and the former Grace V Magee of Carthage Indiana. He attended Carthage High School.

Ripley excursion group tours Coney Island Ohio by river boat
About forty residents from Ripley township joined a Sunday trip to Coney Island Ohio aboard Shaw Bus Line coaches to Cincinnati. A side wheeler then carried the crowd twelve miles on the Ohio River to the island resort with thousands present. Carthage travelers unloaded about two thousand on one trip. Future excursions are planned to boost mass transport to the island resort from Carthage and nearby areas.
