Anita Kay Gordon of Carthage files for divorce from John L. Gordon. They married August 22, 1956 with separation July 12. Plaintiff seeks custody and support for two children and alimony of $6,000. A restraining order against the defendant is in place.
The Rush County Fair unveils a new fire proof 60 by 112 foot industrial building for exhibits and community events. The fair runs Monday July 29 through Friday August 2 with horse shows, hog and dairy events, tractor pulling, beef cattle displays, pony races, a music and variety show, and Kids Day with reduced rides. Judging begins at 8:30 each morning, entries close July 24, and officials expect a strong showing across 4H, Open, and livestock divisions.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Smith of Carthage announce the birth of a daughter Judy Ann born Friday July 19 at Rush Memorial Hospital weighing 8 pounds 4 ounces.
Larry T Webster 18 of Route 6 Rushville and Maxine Joan Harding 18 of Route 6 Rushville apply for a marriage license. International Furniture Co. appears in the filing as part of the couple’s details.
Mrs. Maude Porter was released from Rush Memorial Hospital Monday. Mrs. Eva Leisure returned home Monday from Rush Memorial. Mrs. Elmer Hunt came home from Hancock County Hospital Tuesday after major surgery. Ben Neal remains about the same at his Carthage home. Mrs. Henry Stenger is slowly improving at Rush Memorial.
Richard Bonne Jr wins divorce from Eleanor Bonne with custody of two children and $25 weekly support. A property settlement is approved. A probate petition for Lee Roy Divelbiss’s will, dated June 16 1960, directs equal shares to Bernard Divelbiss Rushville Gilbert Divelbiss Knightstown Myrtle Weber Mays Ruby Weber Indianapolis. Co executors Bernard and Gilbert Divelbiss may run farms if in the estate’s best interest.
The Christian Women Fellowship will hold a church picnic on Sunday at East St. Christian Church, replacing the August meeting.
Mrs. Raymond Kennedy and son Lynn joined Mrs. Lena Newsom on a trip to Van Buren to see Mr. and Mrs Earnest Coolman from Thursday to Sunday. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Paul Newsom at their cottage on Tri Lake during the same period.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cook of Falmouth Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Skinner and Mrs. Louis Humes of Carthage spent the weekend with Mrs. Leah Coons at her Patton Lake cottage near Martinsville.
Rev. Jack Wallace of Carthage came home Saturday after two weeks schooling at the U S Army company School at Ft Hamilton Brooklyn NY. Mrs Wallace and two sons spent time with family in Evansville Indiana.
A man and three sons spent Tuesday to Friday visiting his brother Kenneth Hampton and wife and children in Lexington Kentucky. Other relatives Grant Hampton and daughter and John Hert and wife with family from Bedford joined as houseguests. They visited several sites in Kentucky and attended horse races in Louisville.
He served as the invited speaker during the Sunday afternoon program, delivering remarks to attendees.
The Woman's Society of Christian Service will host a guest tea on Thursday August 1 at the church. Hostesses are Mrs Raymond Kennedy Mrs Hubert Hunt and Mrs Lena Newsom. Guest speaker Mrs Lottie Root of Milroy will attend.
Fair Queen Miss Cynthia Pearson daughter of Mr and Mrs Claude Pearson of Carthage won the Rush County Fair Queen title Thursday night over twenty eight other contestants.
Robert O. Cullison of Arlington died on his 78th birthday at 1 50 a m Tuesday en route to Rush Memorial Hospital after a heart attack thirty minutes earlier. A retired Baltimore and Ohio Railroad foreman, he lived in Rush County since 1932 and worked 36 years as a track foreman. He resided in Glenwood before moving to Arlington and was a member of the Christian Church in Illinois.
For the first time this year an all Shetland Pony Show will be held in the Indiana State Fair Coliseum. The event will feature two $1,000 Shetland Pony Stakes and a class where a Shetland Pony is driven by a child 16 years of age and under.
Laura Ann Reddick 90 a lifelong Ripley Center resident died Friday at Jackson Nursing Home Rushville Services were held Sunday at Hampton Mortuary at 2 30 p m burial in Glen Cove Cemetery Knightstown She was born July 15 1873 to Lewis and Elizabeth McDaniel Reddick She belonged to Center Christian Church Survived by sister Mrs Philip Sattler of R R 2 Carthage and brother Floyd Reddick of R R 2 Carthage
Members of the Fidelity Class and families enjoyed a Sunday social at the Amn Stager Cottage with a meal followed by a business meeting led by Roy Stanley. The group discussed the upcoming church fair on September 14 and voted to hold the next meeting at the parsonage with a wiener roast. Mrs. Roy Stanley was named to the church committee. Hubert Hunt presented movie pictures as attendees listed include Ralph Pearson Marvin Johnson Kenneth Oldham Robert Walker and others from Greenfield Knightstown and local families.
Arlington district commissioner Bud Fancher invites teams to enter the first round of the USA State Softball Tourney by July 25. County and district events are in Arlington with winners from Rush, Shelby, Hancock, Fayette, Decatur and two Richmond teams. Major sanctioned squads join the district tourney August 7–10, with subsequent rounds in Shelbyville August 15–18, LaPorte August 22–25, Aurora Illinois August 30–Sept 2, and Clearwater Florida September 20–27.
The Ripley Needletwisters met in the Home Ec room at school with 14 members present. President Jenny Boff called the meeting to order and pledges were led by Kathy Wright and Diana Whitfield.
A baby girl named Laura Jeanne Lupata was born to Mr and Mrs Bru no Lupata in Tell City Indiana on Wednesday July 24 Mr Lupata is a former teacher at the local school.
Connersville blanked Arlington 3-0 in Arlington Softball League action Tuesday. C-ville pitcher Russell fanned nine with one walk, while Arlington’s Stewart struck out five and issued two walks. Cates and Isaacs each hit a triple for C-ville, with Lanning and Sargent adding doubles. Carthage won by forfeit from Perfect Circle in the scheduled second game.
Carthage High School lost two games at home last week, 10-1 to Morristown and 11-3 to Milroy. Nu gent pitched Morristown to the win allowing one hit and 15 strikeouts, while Milroy broke a pitching duel in the final inning and pulled away. Lloyd Mofield homered for Carthage and Cliff Aker added two singles. Morristown later tied for first in the league with an 8-2 victory over New Salem, as Fred Miller struck out 13 for the winners and Nugent, Linville, and Miller doubled for Morristown.
Summer vacations kept Carthage players from matching Milroy as the locals fell 10 to 0. Carthage managed two hits by Chuck and John Ewing, while Milroy scored 10 runs with multiple players contributing.
Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Clay and their children completed a week of travel through Kentucky Tennessee North and South Carolina and Georgia. The family attended the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and visited relatives in Hazard Kentucky.
Jackson Township residents filed a 74 signature remonstrance to force a special election on merging five townships into one metropolitan school district. The vote date is September 10, 1963, with Center Posey Walker and Ripley townships also involved.
The 1963 Indiana State Fair runs August 24 to September 4 featuring Jimmy Durante with Eddie Jackson and Sonny King, a Western Horse Show, Shetland Pony Stakes, Beverly Hills Hillbilly Stars, Flat Saddle Horse Show, World Championship Rodeo, Kochman auto stunts, Grand Circuit harness racing, and USAC Stock Car and 100 Mile Race. Information and free tickets available from the Ticket Department in Indianapolis.
Ripley Township reported the highest June rainfall at 4.4 inches while Union was driest at 1.6 inches. Robert White led individuals with 5.4 inches, followed by Duard McDaniel at 5.1. A April-June summary shows Richland leading with 12.6 inches, Ripley 12.1, Orange 11.3, and Posey 7.6. Rainfall cooperators will continue daily reports through September 1.
Hugh Trowbridge and Bill Windsor announce the 1963 Carthage Fall Festival dates running from Monday September 30th to Saturday October 5th. Jessop's rides will open the festival and organizers will issue meeting dates and plans soon.
Mrs. Russell Parish hosted a Sunday birthday dinner for her husband Russell and Miss Janell Connor of near New Palestine. Other guests included Phil Parish. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Moore and daughter Vickie of Marion. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Carnine of Madison. Mr. and Mrs. George Hopper and children of North Vernon. and Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Snook of Bedford Kentucky.
Mrs. Virginia Wells and her daughter spent Wednesday evening through Monday visiting Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Collins at Aredale Iowa.
