Gordon divorce filed over custody and alimony

Anita Kay Gordon of Carthage files for divorce from John L. Gordon. They married August 22, 1956 with separation July 12. Plaintiff seeks custody and support for two children and alimony of $6,000. A restraining order against the defendant is in place.

Rush County Fair Opens Monday With New Industrial Building

The Rush County Fair unveils a new fire proof 60 by 112 foot industrial building for exhibits and community events. The fair runs Monday July 29 through Friday August 2 with horse shows, hog and dairy events, tractor pulling, beef cattle displays, pony races, a music and variety show, and Kids Day with reduced rides. Judging begins at 8:30 each morning, entries close July 24, and officials expect a strong showing across 4H, Open, and livestock divisions.

A man and three sons spent Tuesday to Friday visiting his brother Kenneth Hampton and wife and children in Lexington Kentucky. Other relatives Grant Hampton and daughter and John Hert and wife with family from Bedford joined as houseguests. They visited several sites in Kentucky and attended horse races in Louisville.

Arlington Man Dies En Route to Hospital on 78th Birthday

Robert O. Cullison of Arlington died on his 78th birthday at 1 50 a m Tuesday en route to Rush Memorial Hospital after a heart attack thirty minutes earlier. A retired Baltimore and Ohio Railroad foreman, he lived in Rush County since 1932 and worked 36 years as a track foreman. He resided in Glenwood before moving to Arlington and was a member of the Christian Church in Illinois.

All Shetland Pony Show Set for Indiana State Fair Coliseum

For the first time this year an all Shetland Pony Show will be held in the Indiana State Fair Coliseum. The event will feature two $1,000 Shetland Pony Stakes and a class where a Shetland Pony is driven by a child 16 years of age and under.

Fidelity Class Picnic and Meeting at Amn Stager Cottage

Members of the Fidelity Class and families enjoyed a Sunday social at the Amn Stager Cottage with a meal followed by a business meeting led by Roy Stanley. The group discussed the upcoming church fair on September 14 and voted to hold the next meeting at the parsonage with a wiener roast. Mrs. Roy Stanley was named to the church committee. Annual USA Softball Tourney Entries Sought in Arlington

Arlington district commissioner Bud Fancher invites teams to enter the first round of the USA State Softball Tourney by July 25. County and district events are in Arlington with winners from Rush, Shelby, Hancock, Fayette, Decatur and two Richmond teams. Major sanctioned squads join the district tourney August 7–10, with subsequent rounds in Shelbyville August 15–18, LaPorte August 22–25, Aurora Illinois August 30–Sept 2, and Clearwater Florida September 20–27.

Carthage High Drops Two Badly to Morristown and Milroy

Carthage High School lost two games at home last week, 10-1 to Morristown and 11-3 to Milroy. Nu gent pitched Morristown to the win allowing one hit and 15 strikeouts, while Milroy broke a pitching duel in the final inning and pulled away. Lloyd Mofield homered for Carthage and Cliff Aker added two singles. Morristown later tied for first in the league with an 8-2 victory over New Salem, as Fred Miller struck out 13 for the winners and Nugent, Linville, and Miller doubled for Morristown.

Ripley Leads Co In Rainfall for June and Three Month Summary

Ripley Township reported the highest June rainfall at 4.4 inches while Union was driest at 1.6 inches. Robert White led individuals with 5.4 inches, followed by Duard McDaniel at 5.1. A April-June summary shows Richland leading with 12.6 inches, Ripley 12.1, Orange 11.3, and Posey 7.6. Rainfall cooperators will continue daily reports through September 1.
