Mammoth Birthday Cake Steals Spotlight at Dinner Party
Mr and Mrs Charles Moore hosted a surprise birthday dinner for their son Robert on Monday evening. The evening featured a 29 layer cake baked by Robert's wife with fried chicken and baked ham on the menu. Civil War Vet James H. Andrews Turns 93 In Gwynneville
Shelby county’s only living Civil War veteran James H. Andrews celebrated his 93rd birthday at his Gwynneville home with a family dinner hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Hershel Thurston. He joined the Union army at age 16 and remains active gardening and visiting the post office.

State Fair Tickets On Sale At Half Price In Indiana

Mother of Raymond Springer Dies Sunday
Mrs. Josephine Springer aged 86 died early Sunday in Connersville at her son Raymond S. Springer a U S representative from the Tenth district. The widow of Lorenzo D. Springer she spent her life in Fayette county. Funeral was held at 10 a m Wednesday at Myers funeral home Connersville with burial in Dale cemetery.

Curve speed signs cut fatalities on Indiana road test

Biggest Boy Gets A Ring
One of the last photos shows Robert Wadlow receiving a large Masonic ring, size 25, made by a St. Louis jeweler for Wadlow. The ring weighs 33 pennyweight with 150 diamonds, valued at $500, as Wadlow died earlier the week from a foot infection leading to blood poisoning.

Nesus Wins National Percheron Championship in Chicago
Nesus, a five year old imported black stallion owned by Robert W. Lyons of Lewisville, claimed first prize among 65 contenders in a national Percheron contest. Judges from 17 livestock experts selected winners from owner supplied photos. Julie, the 1939 International Live Stock show grand champion mare owned by Eli Lilly of Noblesville, led the first place mares with other Lyons entries Shenley Serverie and Martigue placing well.
