Lightning Sparks Fire Damper at New McCarty Home
A brief electric storm visited on Friday night caused a four inch insulation fire in the basement near woodwork at O. C. McCarty’s new house after lightning struck the telephone line. A bolt split a large wild cherry tree on the hill west of town near Adkins farm. A heavy rain followed and temperatures rose to 95 by Sunday noon, then cooled to 76 with later 80s and 90s per nights.

Organize Against Banditry in Rush County Banks
A Rushville meeting of Rush county bankers decided to adopt the Iowa vigilance plan against bank banditry. Five vigilant names per bank will be certified to the sheriff, and county banks will offer a $1,000 reward for each bank bandit dead or alive.

Stephen Finney Dies Sudden at Jackson Township Farm
Stephen Finney aged about 58 died suddenly at 1 p m Wednesday on the Elmer Ellison farm in Jackson township while inspecting a wheel near a wheat threshing crew. He collapsed and died within minutes. Surviving are a brother and several half siblings. Funeral services will be held at Raymond Finney’s home with Bennett Webb in charge.
