Mr and Mrs Ross Tweedy came home Thursday from trips to Land O Lakes Niagara Falls and other places. They visited their daughter Mrs Donald H Briggeman and family at Niagara Falls. Mrs Forrest Moore returned Sunday night from a two week stay at Lake Webster.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Truitt and daughter Sue Ann return from a visit to Big Rapids and Muskegon Michigan. Sue Ann spent the weekend at Indiana Beach with three Indiana University classmates.

Ale Marvin Pike arrived home Thursday night from the Philippine Islands after a stay of 1% years. He will be home for 43 days before reporting to New York.
Hubert Hunt and his family are on a vacation trip to the New England states. They visited Valley Forge in Pennsylvania Independence Hall and other historical sites in Philadelphia and attended a performance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Clyde Ruby and family plan a Ludington Michigan vacation next week. Ralph and Mrs. Moore operate Corner Market. Howard Windsor and Lindley Taylor couples travel to Florida to visit Eddie Carter. Ed Bly family will stay in Ludington for a few days with F. J. Bly and wife from Converse Indiana. Virginia Wells will run the Citizen office typing pool during the Bly trip. Roy Hearne will handle the Automobile License branch in Bly’s absence.
The Henderson team of 45 or 50 years ago will gather for a reunion and pitch-in dinner at Memorial Park Rushville next Sunday July 17. A 12 00 noon dinner is planned and all members and fans are invited to attend.
Five 4 H youths sponsored by Rushville Kiwanis to the Junior Leaders Training Camp at DePauw University spoke at Wilhelm's Cafe Tuesday night. The group described camp highlights the program benefits and recreational activities enjoyed during the trip.
Mr and Mrs Elmer DeWitt of Carthage welcomed a son born Tuesday July 12 at Rush Memorial Hospital weighing 8 pounds 2.07 ounces named Dennis Lynn. Mr and Mrs Harlan Grizzell of ? also welcomed a child born Monday at Rush Memorial Hospital.
Rush County Health Officer Dr R O Kennedy asked for 3000 to 3600 extra in next year’s budget to hire an assistant to inspect domestic septic tanks and sewage disposal units. He cited improper installations and a Milroy school contamination issue. Public Welfare Director Mrs Gladys Hughes warned the working balance is dangerously low due to a levy cut and higher nursing home costs. No action was taken. requests will be studied at September budget sessions.
Seventy youth attended the State 4H Junior Leader Conference events in Greencastle with Ripley Township supplying 15 delegates. Carol Ewing was elected first alternate to the State Junior Leader Council, joining Kay Keesling of Columbus as Indianapolis District representatives. The group planned next year’s conference and a August trip to central Illinois and the University of Illinois, plus a public speaking contest set for August 9.
Evangelistic services are held at the Community Center Friday at 8 p m and Sunday at 7 30 p m Miss Margaret Tector and Miss Sarah Higdon conduct the services The public is invited.
John Allen Jackson and Marvin Ray are stationed at the U S Naval Training Center in Great Lakes Illinois. Bill Whitfield of Louisville Kentucky plans to join them in a few days.
In 1820 the United States housed over two hundred thousand free Negroes, mostly in the South, some with slaves of their own. Free people who settled Ripley Township included neighbors and former Quakers. Quakers moving to free territory invited colored neighbors to travel by Indian trails along riverbanks. Uriah, a carpenter of Carthage, made boots for the community for years. During the Civil War Oliver P. Overman from Carthage rode into Vicksburg on a white pony wearing Uriah Bass boots, one boot’s heel shot off.
June real estate activity in Rush County showed rapid turnover with Rushville City property fetching about 96000 dollars. Transactions include Henry County area 1783 acres and multiple family transfers such as John and Hallie Bennett to Valie and Lela Gold 159 acres and to Richard and Joyce Harrold 255.40 acres across several sections and townships.
Morristown hosts the ninth annual Coaster Race on July 30 with sponsors including the Morristown Lions Club the American Legion the Legion Auxiliary and the Morristown Business and Professional Women's Club.

Lallie Edwards of Indianapolis visited sister Wilbur McCorkle. Herman Little Markes McClurg Randy and Bill Watkins and Finly Smith attended the Jr League American Legion ball game in Richmond between Richmond and Greenfield. The McClurgs with Larry and Norma Jean Marsh watched games in Greenfield and Union City. Howard E Henley and wife left for Niles Michigan to visit relatives including Charles Woodbridge and Dr Max Haas. J S Miller plans a Lake Shafer vacation. Ray Fox and son also mentioned.
Indiana State Fair announces a glittering lineup released by Walter H. Wimmer president of the fair board. The program features morning and afternoon shows September 1 with ostrich camel and elephant acts, Irish Horan Hell Drivers, and a Guard Contest at 6 30 p m All Coliseum shows begin 7 p m nightly September 4 5 with King Cole Russ Morgan Ten nessee Ernie Ford and Ted Weems plus Red Ingle Bonnie Ann Shaw and Nip Nelson as host.
Mrs Charles Mosier has been confined to Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond.
Knightstown dominates Carthage 20 to 2 in the game. Knightstown earned a return contest at home next Monday July 13.
The Mixers Home Ec Club met with members repeating the club creed. Maxine McDaniel led devotions for an article titled Where Are We. Marilyn Leisure reported on the 4H round-up at Purdue. Gladys Butler presented the secretary treasurer's report. Ten members and nineteen children attended.
Fifteen girls competed in the County Junior Demonstration contest at the Farm Bureau Store with all earning demonstrator medals. Barbara Wilson of Noble Township won the Senior Demonstration Contest with Lazy Daisy Cake and will represent Rush County at the District Contest in Indianapolis July 22. More than one hundred girls participated overall in home economics judging including baking clothing food preservation and home improvement with top finishers advancing to district judging.
Carthage routed Knightstown 11 to 1 Tuesday night in Arlington League play, breaking a four way tie for first. Arlington slipped past PPG Shelbyville 32 to gain sole lead as Norm Morris starred with a two run homer and strong pitching. Pochan doubled twice for PPG.
Mr and Mrs Charles Whitfield and their son Joe along with Grant Henley attended the Rural Letter Carriers Association state convention held Sunday through Tuesday in Bloomington.
Howard Casey 48 a Center Township farmer died Wednesday of a self inflicted gunshot wound at his home. Services were held Friday at Butcher Funeral Home Knightstown with the Rush County coroner noting despondence over failing eye sight. Surviving are Ruth Casey widow a mother Mrs Josephine Carmichael of Shirley and a half brother Woodrow Imboden of Indianapolis.
Garden Club members and guests enjoyed a cooperative dinner Tuesday evening at the home of Dr. and Mrs. H. L. Hensler. After a bountiful meal, eight members and nine guests watched TV together. Michael Jr and John Herkless of Indianapolis are staying with Mr and Mrs Jesse Kizer this week. The two young boys recently lost their mother to a heart attack.
Four Carthage High School boys joined the Greenfield American Legion squad this summer. They defeated Elwood 63 and beat Morristown 5 2, then lost to Union City 1 26. They next face Richmond at Greenfield next Sunday morning.
