Mrs. Jesse Kizer learned Wednesday morning of the death of her daughter in law Patricia Ann Herkless age 23 from a heart attack at 2 a m She leaves husband and two sons Michael Jr and Johnie Funeral plans await arrival of her father from California
Word reached Mr and Mrs Frank Overman from Jesse Henley that after a Saturday drive Mrs Henley fell while alighting from a car and broke her collar bone. She is recovering from a hip fracture suffered months ago and is with her daughter Mrs Francis Robinson in Richmond.
Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Brown and their daughter completed a weeklong trip to Florida visiting Daytona Beach Cypress Gardens and St. Augustine before returning via the Smoky Mountains. The family itinerary included several noted stops and scenic routes.
Harold Ball was admitted and underwent eye surgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis last week. He has since returned home to recover.
Robert Dhonau is stationed at Bergstron Air Base in Austin Texas as part of a military posting. The note places him in Texas, naming the base and city.
Mr and Mrs Walter Chonan Mr and Mrs Guy Ewing and Mr and Mrs Donald Ruby joined for a July Fourth picnic at Riley Park Greenfield The weekend visitors were Mr and Mrs Ralph Stevens from Indianapolis staying with Mr and Mrs Floyd Reddick The group also included Mrs Lucille Reeves Carolyn the Sattlers the Geises and Roy Reddick family at a Sunday picnic supper.
Mr and Mrs Earl Nowotne came back to Indianapolis after a week at Lake Wawasee with Mr and Mrs Floyd Collins. They arrived Saturday and spent the night and Sunday with Mr and Mrs Max Nowotne and their son.

John Fischel and the couple Mr. and Mrs. Lee-Patton contributed Not as a Stranger and Morton Thompson.
Mrs. William Mann joined Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Smith and family and Mr. and Mrs. Basil Hagelbaker to mark the couple’s twenty second wedding anniversary Friday evening.

Mr and Mrs Blaine Addison of Knightstown and Mrs Ria Gray attended the funeral services Monday at the Pasco Funeral Home in Greenfield for relative Mrs Harry Smith who died six weeks ago. Burial followed at Asbury cemetery near Morristown.

The Carthage town council in regular meeting bought five new street lights to illuminate darkened areas on East Fourth Street East Henley Street East Mill Street East Street and North Main Street. The Lions House Number committee sought proper designation for duplicate street names and readiness to install numbers. A rep from American LaFrance Fire Equipment Co. discussed new fire equipment purchases. No formal action followed.
Thomas F. Cass being elevated to Senior Vice President of California Container Corporation a Container Corporation of America subsidiary. The move announced jointly by Walter P Paepcke chairman of the parent company John G Robinson and William P Hooker chairman and president of the subsidiary. Cass formerly VP in charge of folding cartons and box board properties will now oversee West Coast corrugated and solid fibre shipping container properties.
Carthage 7th and 8th graders fell twice to Knightstown 32-3 and 23-4. The high school baseball team lost to Morristown 6-5 on Sunday July 3, then beat Mays 11-1 on Wednesday. The softball squad dropped a 6-5 Arlington league contest to Knightstown Tuesday night.
Lee Somers a prominent farmer of northern Rush County near Knightstown died Wednesday night after an extended illness. A Wilkes County North Carolina native he lived near Shivelys Corner and belonged to several fraternal and religious groups including the Odd Fellows Center Christian Church Golden Rule No 16 F and A M and Knightstown area Masonry bodies. Survivors include three brothers Mansfield Knightstown Hamilton Cycle N C and Arthur Denver N C and two sisters Mrs Josephine Mathias Elkin N C and Mrs Alice Bowers Spray N C. Services were held Saturday at 2 30 pm at Butcher Funeral Home Knightstown with Rev Myron Taylor and Masonic graveside rites at Glen Cove Cemetery.
Miss Julia Kathryn Sorrell of Knightstown and Robert Wayne Stephens of Carthage were married Friday evening at 5 p m by Rev Dean McCoy. The couple planned a short northern Indiana visit after the ceremony and will reside in Carthage after returning.

Rex Allen Stevens of Indianapolis visits grandparents Floyd and Mrs Reddick. Miss Henrietta Nowotne of Shelbyville visited her brother Earl and Mrs Nowotne. Mr and Mrs Charles Whitfield and son Joe and Mr and Mrs Marvin Johnson and son Larry attended the Butler Bowl fireworks in Indianapolis. Mr and Mrs Walter Chonan visited friends in Indianapolis and dined with Mr and Mrs A J Carr near Knights Town.
Joseph Archer, Republican, resumed duties as Washing ton Township trustee in Rush County yesterday replacing J J W Brown who resigned last week. Brown cited Raleigh High School closure as a factor though not stated to commissioners. A mandamus suit seeks reopening of the school. no decision yet.
Mrs Wm Mann was honored Tuesday evening with a baby shower at the Morristown Nazarene church. Thirty four guests attended. Prizes went to Mrs Ralph Snodgrass and Mrs Ozro McDaniel. Refreshments were served by Mae Rose Margison Judy Carmony and Betty Tribby. Mrs Mann received many gifts and was appreciated.
Anice Bly, manager of the Carthage auto license bureau, says all Indiana driver licenses and transfer fees rise Friday per the 1955 General Assembly. Chauffeur and operator licenses up 25 cents. beginner licenses up from 50 cents to 1 dollar. Licenses now expire by birthday from 1956 onward. annual renewals continue. New rates: operator and chauffeur licenses 1.50. titles 2.00. transfer fees 2.00.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur McCorkle were Sunday guests of Mrs. Mc Corkle's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Donoho, at Indianapolis. Charles Hoover is home from overseas duty with the Army. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Kizer were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Billman in Indianapolis.

Indiana passed a 1955 surface water rights law declaring streams and natural waters public resources subject to state control.
Russell Apple, 49, of Rushville, was seriously hurt when his three quarter ton truck collided with a two ton milk truck on U S Highway 40 near Greenfield. Apple, headed to a fly in breakfast at the airport with Kenneth Bash, sustained multiple injuries and was moved to hospitals. The milk truck rolled, spilling milk. driver Arlie Berg was arrested for reckless driving. Apple owns an Aero Commander aircraft hanger at the field. Bush owns a Cessna 140.
Mr and Mrs Charles Whitfield of 605 North Jackson Rushville welcomed a son born Monday. A daughter was born Sunday to Mr and Mrs Maurice Runion of R R Carthage. Mrs Paul Sebesky of Edgewood Maryland and her partner have a son named David Ray. Dr and Mrs Will Norris of 1236 North Perkins Rushville welcomed a son born Wednesday. Dr Norris is a former Carthage resident. A daughter was born Wednesday at Rush Memorial Hospital to Mr and Mrs Mark Ellis of RR 2.
Mrs Rachel King has returned home from Bluffton Hospital after surgery. Her daughter Mrs Juanita Small and family from Pico California are visiting for a few weeks.
The first load of wheat at Carthage Grain Co. came from the Harry Smith farm west of Carthage and tested 59 pounds with 14.5 percent moisture. Cool damp June weather delayed harvesting but elevator operators expect a full run in the next few days.
Rushville police report Mrs Armetha Turner of Carthage was in a traffic mishap on West Third street at 9 30 am Tuesday morning her car struck by Rev Reno Tacoma of Arlington R R 1 driving from a parking place. The Tacoma vehicle also hit Delbert Lands car parked at the curb with damages estimated at 50 50 and 100 dollars respectively.
Mr and Mrs Warren Stevens and sons and Mrs Floyd Stevens of Carthage join Mr and Mrs Ray OHaire Mr and Mrs Timothy OHaire and Mr and Mrs Ray Moore of Cleveland Ohio in returning Monday from a ten day vacation at Lavigne Ontario Canada.
