Carthage FFA Delegates Attend Indiana Convention at Purdue

Carthage FFA Chapter sent Robert Sullivan and Harry Kemper to the thirty fifth annual Indiana FFA convention at Purdue University from June 30 to July 2. Advisor Robert Wright accompanied the delegates. National FFA President Nels Ackerson spoke, with performances by the state FFA chorus and band. Indiana FFA Association, formed in 1929, now chartered in the national organization, lists about 10 000 active members across the state.

Ripley Boosters 4H Club Holds June Meeting

The Jr. Ripley Boosters 4H Club met June 24 at 7 30 p.m. in the high school Ag room with 21 members present. President John Ewing led the session and demonstrations on selecting a dairy calf and wildlife exhibit were given. A field trip to Mr Robert Wright’s home is planned for July 3 for Forestry Div I members, with record books due for signing at the July 15 meeting.

Newlyweds at Home in Greenfield

The Greenfield Friends Church hosted the June wedding of Miss Jane Hunt and John Pierce. Honey Business Out at Logan House

Bees had nested in the Logan Nelsons’ second floor wall for years. Bee expert Essie Gulley removed swarms and found stored honey and new comb. Nearly 100 pounds of honey were recovered or discarded as old boards were torn out and the wall insulated.

Riverside Cemetery Vandalism Reported Near Carthage

State Trooper James Kleiman investigated vandalism at Riverside Cemetery west of Carthage. The past weekend saw about a dozen tombstones knocked over and one or two urns broken, with an automobile driven over some graves, authorities said.

4H Dairy Tour At Purdue Area Farms

The 4H Dairy Tour gathering on Thursday morning June 25 drew 50 attendees including 4H members and guests. Purdue Dairy Specialist Mr. Norbert Moeller discussed housing and feeding of dairy cattle and calf selection and care. Stops included Joe Schroeder's farm with free stall housing, Steve Hahn's calf fitting, and Kenneth and Richard Hoeing on selection for milk production and calf feeding for show prep.

Stephen Jay Marshall valedictorian of Carthage Class of 1964 received a renewable State Scholarship from Purdue University. He plans to enroll in the School of Science and is the son of Mr and Mrs Forrest Marshall of 502 North Main Street Carthage. The Marshalls spent Sunday and Monday at Purdue Campus for Stephen pre enrollment.

Rose Ann Logan Buried Tuesday

Rose Ann Logan 22 of Portsmouth Ohio formerly Carthage died June 27 at Ohio State University Hospital after three months as a patient. Born June 16 1942 in Carthage she was survived by husband Keith three children mother sister and grandparents. Funeral services were held at the Nazarene Church in Portsmouth with burial at Memorial Burial Park Wheelersburg.

Arlington resident Elmer Readle dies at 91 in Hancock Memorial

Elmer F Readle aged 91 of Rt 1 Arlington died at 2 am Friday in Hancock Memorial Hospital where he had been confined since June 10 after a period of ill health since March. Born December 9 1872 in Cincinnati he was a son of Frank and Roseanna Bacon Readle. He lived in Arlington since 1913 and belonged to Arlington Christian Church and Phoenix Lodge F and A M for 50 years. He played in the Arlington Band for five decades. Surviving are two daughters Kathryn Hufford and Maribel Maross a son James Readle three grandchildren two great grandchildren and a brother John Readle. His wife Jessie N Cross Readle preceded him, dying April 25 1963.
