Family flies to Florida for mother’s serious surgery

Mrs. James Ellis of Carthage and her sister Mrs. Betty Holloway of Indianapolis flew to St. Petersburg, Florida, last Saturday to be with their mother Mrs. Josephine McManus who underwent major surgery several days ago. McManus’ condition has been serious.

W.S.C.S and C.W.F Meet February at Methodist Church

The February meeting of the W.S.C.S will be held next Thursday February 2 at the Methodist Church addition. Hostesses include Mesdames Bob Nigh Mable Manche Paul Mayfield and Nelle Newby. Major surgery for Mrs. McManus in Florida

Mrs. Fred McManus had major surgery several days ago in St. Petersburg where they are spending the winter. Her condition is listed as serious by her daughter Mrs. James Ellis who flew in to be with her mother this weekend.

Oil Stove Fire Damages Gorman Grocery Store

A defective oil stove caused heavy smoke and soot at the Thomas Gorman family North End Grocery Sunday night. The stove burned through and was left without a pipe to the chimney, requiring a full Monday cleanup. Insurance covered the smoke loss.
