Mr and Mrs William Alexander of Carthage announce the birth of their daughter Lori Ann born January 21 1961 weighing 5 pounds 14 3 4 ounces. Lori Ann is the granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Alexander and Mrs Jane Kinder of Carthage.
The Carthage American Legion invites members to a meeting next Thursday evening February 14 at 8 oclock in the Community Center.
Mrs. James Ellis of Carthage and her sister Mrs. Betty Holloway of Indianapolis flew to St. Petersburg, Florida, last Saturday to be with their mother Mrs. Josephine McManus who underwent major surgery several days ago. McManus’ condition has been serious.
The February meeting of the W.S.C.S will be held next Thursday February 2 at the Methodist Church addition. Hostesses include Mesdames Bob Nigh Mable Manche Paul Mayfield and Nelle Newby. The Christian Women's Fellowship gathering also February 2 at the church with Mrs Wilbur McCorkle Mrs Hugh Trowbridge and Mrs Delmar Sipes assisting.
Mrs Robert White Mrs Ann Stager Mrs Ralph Pearson and Mrs Edna Windsor members of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority attended the Founders Day Luncheon Saturday at the Continental Hotel Indianapolis The event featured the Antique Shoes program Virgil Gebauer of Marrett Shoe Store spoke Mrs White attended a Grand Council meeting Friday night and remained in Indianapolis overnight Stager attended the Alpha Omega Chapter meeting of Past Grand Presidents before the luncheon Saturday
Mrs. Fred McManus had major surgery several days ago in St. Petersburg where they are spending the winter. Her condition is listed as serious by her daughter Mrs. James Ellis who flew in to be with her mother this weekend.

Mr and Mrs Charles Bash observed their 67th wedding anniversary Sunday evening January 22 1961 at home. 88 and 83 years old neither has had a family death among children grandchildren or great grandchildren. Refreshments were served and grandchildren arranged the observance. Attending were Cleo Bash Conrad Bash and families Indianapolis Lynn Woodward family Lapel Everett Kyser Jr and family Shirley Gene Fout family Shirley W T Wicker family Greenfield Everett Kyser and John Bash Greenfield Russell Shutt Thomas Bash and Kenneth Bash with all their children Carthage.

Theodore Eugene Harris twenty and Phyllis Ann Readle nineteen obtained a marriage license in Carthage and Knights Town records.
A defective oil stove caused heavy smoke and soot at the Thomas Gorman family North End Grocery Sunday night. The stove burned through and was left without a pipe to the chimney, requiring a full Monday cleanup. Insurance covered the smoke loss.
The January meeting of the Mays Parent-Teacher Organization was held at Mays School with 117 members attending. Reports covered gym upgrades, class suppers, babysitting ideas, piano needs, devotional remarks, and a film program, with February set for the usual third Monday meeting.
Indiana state treasurer Robert Hughes will address Rush County Lincoln Day banquet on Thursday February 9 at the Durbin Hotel. Lincoln Day chairman Jack Clarkson announced with co chair Gerald Petro ticket chair Wilma Hoagland and decorations chair Bertha Rowan. Tickets go on sale early next week with more details to follow.
In Rush County Tourney action Mays Tigers defeated Carthage 61-43 in a semifinal, amid 28 Raider errors. New Salem Eagles edged Mays 54-52 in overtime for the title as Angle set county tourney scoring records with 69 points through the tournament and 34 in the final game.
Bill Morrison of Greensburg joins Representative Ralph Harvey’s staff as Young Republican Liaison. A Greensburg High School and Governor Dummer Academy graduate, he studied at Kenyon College and Georgetown University. He fulfilled military service at SHAPE in Paris and will edit a district newsletter for the Tenth District Young Republicans.

Rep. Howard Ewbank of Rushville introduced a bill in the Indiana House to raise the maximum public works contract that can be let without bids from 500 to 1000 dollars. The measure is filed jointly with Rep. John E. Mitchell of Flat Rock.
Mr and Mrs Richard Craig and family from Indianapolis were Sunday guests of Mrs Sullivan Sr and her husband. Ronnie Sullivan returned home from Purdue University for the weekend.
