School Notes on spelling contest and recount

Students study for county spelling with words from Chen's Speller's last pages. The Republican petition for a presidential recount in the school election has been granted and will proceed. Original votes were Roosevelt 73 and Dawes 71. The County oratorical contest heats up with several entrants planned for late February.

The Ripley Country Club met last Thursday at Mrs. Jesse Newsom's home with Mrs. James Terhune as hostess. Two guests attended and most members were present except three to hear an interesting paper on the Characters of Rush County. Refreshments followed the business session served by the hostesses.

Mr and Mrs Floyd Miller hosted a supper south of town in honor of Mr and Mrs Francis Walds fourth wedding anniversary. Attending were Inda Bowen and family Walds and daughter from Gwynneville Irene Hileman Carmen Land Donald Wald Ralph Haywood and Roy Linscott. Afterward three euchre tables were played.

Former Clyde resident Freeman Billings dies

Word arrived of the death of Freeman Billings once superintendent of the local mill. He later ran two mills in Wheyway New Jersey before moving to Clyde Ohio where he owned and operated a garage until his death.

The local referee leans toward Carthage to win the county title for 1934, barring results that favor the Eagles.
