The Adult Wheels Skating Club rents Skateland Skating Rink for a Tuesday event from 7:00 to 10:00 PM inviting all members and adults past high school age interested in joining.
Mr and Mrs Harold Webb welcomed a 10 pound son named Jonathan David born Wednesday January 20 at Hancock Memorial Hospital. He is the grandson of Mrs Ellen Creswell of Carthage.
Bill Pitts son of Mr and Mrs Jesse Pitts of Carthage has completed his B S in Accounting at Indiana University as a mid year student and will graduate in June. He is a member of Alpha Kappa Psi and secretary of the Indiana University Accounting Club. He has accepted a position with Roy J Pile & Co in Indianapolis. The Pitts family lives with Mrs Sunman in Carthage.
Rev George Holwager now leads the Dade Christian Church dedication held in Homestead Florida. The modern building drew praise from Florida church workers and leaders who attended the ceremonies. Rev Robert W Shaw of First Christian Church Miami delivered the dedicatory address.
Hubert Hunt owner of Carthage Radio and Appliance Shop attended the Merchandise Mart and National Housewares Show in Chicago last Wednesday and Thursday.
The Chi Rho met on Monday night January 18 1960. Linda Apple gave the Flag Salute and Sherry McKain led the Bible pledge and served refreshments. Thirteen members and three guests attended as Julie Ewing and Karen Siler led songs. Larry Bush closed with prayer. News reporter Linda Apple.
Arthur O. Malson of Rushville declared his candidacy for Rush County auditor in the Republican primary in May. At 54, he is married with a son in Indiana University School of Law and has a long career in business and tax work. He hopes to perform diligently if nominated and elected.
Phyllis Tipton, top score in a 50 minute homemaking exam, will receive a Jostens pin and a $1,500 scholarship as Carthage High School leads the state level Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow contest. The test drew 379,018 entrants from 12,597 schools. Alaska and Hawaii participate for the first time. The statewide winner advances to a national awards tour culminating in a Washington DC banquet.
Children made parrots for window decoration and thank Judy Richmond for the candy house on display. Kim Tweedy and James Ma gee decorated the board with Our Work. They finished Useu last semester and will start new books soon.
Mrs. Alexander notes the Ivory Inspection Patrol to maintain cleanliness. Next week the second semester books begin. Della Wiggins returns to the room and the class plans gym time with other grades.
Mrs. Mary Ruby leads a fresh start as fourth grade begins a unit on presidents while the fifth grade wins the floor walking contest and the prize for the six weeks.

Container Corporation of America at Carthage named David Grocox as Safety Man of the Year from thirteen nominees. He was honored January 19 1960 for outstanding safety rule adherence and promoting safety among coworkers.
The local Future Farmers of America chapter met in the Agriculture room at 8:00 with president Mike Heim presiding. Richard Jackson read minutes as Joe Foust presented an $80.99 treasury. motions funded part of a feed bill and selling corn raised on the experimental plot to pay for senior jackets.
A letter to the Citizen reports Mrs. Charles Byrd of California, formerly of Carthage, has moved to 174 Coolwater Dr., San Diego. She notes wonderful weather and an unusual January for mowing grass.
Pvt Bill Parish visits family for 30 days before overseas duty. Mr and Mrs Ralph Mosier spend weekend with son James Mosier in Cincinnati. Gary Stewart and daughters host parents James and June Miller of Taylor Michigan. Fred Flick calls on William Mears in Anderson and on Castner family in Indianapolis. Roy Houchins and Indianapolis family visit Russell and Mrs Shutt. Julia McMichael of Rushville visits Ann Parish. Dale May and sons spend Sunday with Ned Altekruse family at Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Lowell Innis of Anderson Township elected president of the Rush County 4H Club Council at the Jan 18 meeting in the County Extension Office. New officers include Jack Knecht vice president Clarence Dyer treasurer and Mrs Albert Brune secretary. Two new 4H projects Photography and Horse and Pony were approved and window display awards for National 4 H Club week March 6 12 were renewed.
Ripley Township Conservation Club sponsors a Fox Drive this Saturday January 23 1960 at 9 am with transportation from the Community Center. A free hot lunch will be served at noon.
Mr and Mrs William Alexander of Carthage purchased the Donald Sparks property at the corner of East and Second streets. Mr and Mrs Bob Winters and their sons moved from the Sparks property to the A J Carr property at the corner of First and Harrison streets.
The Junior Youth group met last Thursday at the Christian Church with eight members present. Group singing occurred, a story was read, and games were played. Sharon Smith and Billy Henley will provide refreshments at the next meeting. Sharon Smith, news reporter.
Carthage Blue Raiders beat Wilkinson 68 to 64 to make nine straight victories on Tuesday night. Doughty led with 25 points as Carthage pulled away late after trailing in the final quarter. Sullivan fouled out early and Wilkinson’s reserves outscored the visitors in spots.
Carthage Raiders defeated Arlington 64 63 with a late jumper pass and field goal by Mike Watkins. Ed Wooten limited Arlington star Richard Doughty to 10 points as Carthage extended their winning streak to eight after a 3 0 start and also won the junior varsity game 38 26.
The January meeting of the Bet ter Business Association of Carthage on January 14 elected new officers for the year: Robert Winters president, Fred Parish vice president, Parvel Moore secretary treasurer, and Jane Rhodes assistant secretary treasurer. Two new members, Mrs Joyce Harrold and Kenneth Bush, were admitted. The group recommended periodic water flushing of certain Carthage streets with fire hoses.
Rush Lodge No. 580 F. and A. M. installs its officers for the year. Lee Patton is worshipful master with Kenneth Land senior warden Frank Alexander junior warden Tom Alexander senior deacon Wayne Lee junior deacon Eugene R. Gardner secretary Howard Harris senior steward Ercel Bever Jr. junior steward Milton Gardner trustee Selbert Kesler past master served as installing officer.
Senator Homer Capehart announced start of the 1960 population census in Indiana on April 1 1960. Bruce Grandison named Indiana 10th District census supervisor with offices in Richmond and Rush County to have one crew chief and 20 enumerators.
The Soil Conservation District prepares for its annual meeting January 28 at the Durbin Hotel announced by Ennis Rose at the January 13 Board of Supervisors meeting. Ten new cooperators approved, including Donald Stoten and Son and Harley Willey, with fields spanning Ripley Rushville Orange and other townships.
The Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority sponsors a Mothers March for the March of Dimes. Expect a neighbor to call within the next week seeking support or participation.
