A small blaze found Tuesday at Verne Plummer’s farm home, tenanted by Clare Halgarth, started in a clothes closet and destroyed a quantity of clothing. The house was smoked but otherwise undamaged.

Isaac M. Hogle died Tuesday night at his home near Westland at age 86 after a year of illness. He was a lifelong Hancock County resident and father to Carl Hogle, a local grain elevator operator. Survived by wife Alice, two sons Thomas and Emmett, four daughters Ruby Johnson Gladys Cruse Beulah Hite and Mary Raesner, and numerous grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock this morning at the Philadelphia Methodist church with Rev. Edward McClarnon officiating. Interment followed in Philadelphia cemetery.
The bulletin lists new addresses for soldiers including S. Sgt. Billy H. Small at Mainz Germany and Sgt. John M. DeSchipper at Cherry Point North Carolina. Pfc. Charles Hoover moves to Camp Barkeley Texas. Carl Carson Jr reports from a hospital in England with a hip injury and partial use of his left arm while improving. Sgt. Maurice Brooks returns home for a 30 day furlough after service in North Africa Egypt Sicily Italy and France with the 19th Fighter Group.
L H Anderson reports a bulletin from deputy Solid Fuels Administrator C J Potter outlining rules to conserve fuels after shortages. Retail dealers cannot supply bituminous coal in certain sizes to those with 15 days or more of fuel on hand, and consumers with 15 days stock may face limits. Officials urge conserving measures including 70 degree temperatures, banking fires, closing unused rooms, and avoiding excess hot water to prevent stricter control.
Harry Terhune 74 died at 3 00 a m Sunday at his cousin James B Terhune’s home after a heart ailment nine weeks after moving from Louisville Kentucky. Born February 15 1870 in Greensburg to John and Maude Bailey Terhune he leaves 12 cousins. Funeral services were held Monday at Thompson Funeral Home with Dr J F Scull Rushville officiating and interment at Glencove cemetery Knightstown.
Flora B Reicher sister of Mrs Ida Small died Friday at her Indianapolis home Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 PM at Bethany Chapel near Anderson.
Mrs. Orsa Ellison of Homer and Mrs. Bert Jordan of Arlington visited Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. Clara Delinger.
A Fox Drive will be held next Wednesday January 24 under sponsorship of the Ripley Township Conservation Club. A good turnout is expected.
The Ripley Conservation Club met Thursday evening in the Lions Den with strong attendance. Worth Pitts presided over the business session which reelected all officers: Worth Pitts president Walter Nelson vice president and John Lynch secretary treasurer. The program featured talks by Hancock county conservation officer Mr Boling and Bayard Baker of Carthage.
The official Fletcher Methodist church board met Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A B Thompson with Dr. R O Pearson and Dr J T Scull present. Plans and committees for the Crusade for Christ were formed and $300 was subscribed.
Mrs. Fred King was returned to her home here Saturday from the Methodist hospital in Indianapolis where she recently underwent an operation to remove her appendix. She is improving.
Ripley township Farm Bureau will hold its monthly session next Monday night at the school building. A good attendance is expected as members plan discussion on local farming issues and upcoming events.
Eight Rushville area schools will compete in the Rush County high school tournament at Memorial gymnasium. The event opens Thursday January 25 with Milroy vs New Salem and Morton vs Raleigh, followed by Friday night quarterfinals and Saturday semifinal and final rounds with trophies for the winner and runner-up. locals include Morton Memorial and Muncie officials.
Dr. J. T. Scull acts as minister with Hubert Hunt supervising. Mrs. Arthur White assists as superintendent. Sunday school begins at 9 30 a m and preaching service at 10 30 a m. A good attendance is desired.

The Bible school convenes at 9 30 under supervision of James A Reynolds. Worship at 10 30 features the sermon Our Invisible Resources. Midweek prayer and Bible study meet at the parsonage Thursday at 7 o clock.
Mr and Mrs Claude Sipe of Knightstown long with former residents learned their son Lieut Richard Sipe was missing in action December 24 in Germany. A letter dated December 21 to 25 mailed January 4 described a December 20 battle, separation from his company, and loss of billfold and papers. He assured his parents he was safe.
The Indiana Office of Price Administration warns all basic A passenger car ration holders must show mileage rationing records to apply for new gasoline ration. After re registration, each registrant received a mileage form replacing the old tire ration record. Without the form no supplemental ration is issued, and motorists with lost records should request a duplicate from their local War Price and Rationing Board.
Several Ripley township farmers earned honors at the Pur due agricultural conference last week. Robert Earl White took second in the soybean class and won first in the county contest. Donald Stoten Jr. placed fourth in the 4-H ten ears of produce hybrid contest and fifth in the 4-H shelled peck of seed.
Regular Carthage Lions club meeting is scheduled for Monday night January 22. The club continues a membership drive as two teams compete for new members and full attendance is urged.
