The Carthage town council was sworn in Monday night with four new members and three holdovers. Pip Reames resigned as he became Ripley township trustee. a replacement will be named next meeting. Basil Hedgecock was named president and Ralph Moore vice president. Kenneth Earnest remains town attorney. Foster Wilson stays marshal and water works head. Roy Newby continues water rent collection. Outgoing members were Earl Addison Vinton Hudson and Ed Bly.

War Board Drives Farmers to Boost Pulpwood Output
Federal agencies coordinate a winter spring campaign to enlist farmers in pulpwood and lumber production. The effort, announced by WPB Chairman Donald Nelson, aims to avert shortages and support 1944 crop packaging needs. License Plates Sale Opens January 15 1944
Secretary of State Rue J. Alexander announced that auto license plates and driving licenses go on sale January 15, 1944. Applications will be mailed to 1943 registrants, with possible delays due to material shortages. 150 branch offices plus 15 in Marion county will handle renewals, and 1943 plates expire February 28. Funeral services were conducted for Gurney H. Foust age 73 at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Indianapolis. Survivors include widow Clara Foust three sons Cassel B Walter and Hugh Foust all of Indianapolis a daughter Jeannette Morrison of Indianapolis a sister Edith White of Kennard two half-brothers one half-sister six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
