Gorman Pays Fine for Speeding and Reckless Driving
Richard Gorman age 20 of Carthage paid a total of 37.50 in fines after appearing before Justice Robert Hinshaw in Rushville. He had been arrested on the speeding charge February 11 and by sheriff's officers on June 20 of the previous year.

World Day of Prayer Observed at Walnut Ridge Church
Five Carthage churches joined Walnut Ridge Friends Church for a union World Day of Prayer service. Mrs. Hugh Trowbridge led hymns with Mrs. Russell Nigh at the piano. Mrs. Robert Kendall, with Mrs. Clyde Ruby, sang Teach Me To Pray. The theme A Sower Went Forth was shown by Russell Nigh in a chalk drawing as the parable was read and expounded by several women. An offering supported world mission work.

Army Sgt HinshawParticipates in Winter Shield II Exercise
Army Sgt John R Hinshaw 23 son of John W Hinshaw Carthage Indiana took part with the 8th Infantry Division in Exercise Winter Shield II at Grafenwehr Hohenfels training area Germany. The exercise ended Feb 8 and involved about 60 000 troops from the US German and French forces. Hinshaw entered the Army in 1955 and arrived overseas in 1958 with the 504th Infantry Mainz. He is a 1955 graduate of Carthage High School. His mother Garnet Popejoy lives in New Castle.
