Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hogle departed Wednesday for a two weeks vacation in Tampa Florida to visit Mr Hogle s brother.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Henley will leave for Florida Sunday for a few weeks in St. Petersburg and Miami. Rev. and Mrs. Dean McCoy and their daughter will depart Sunday evening for Punta Gorda near Ft. Myers to visit Mrs. McCoy's parents Mr. and Mrs. John Adams for three weeks.
John Allen Ruby performed with the Purdue Glee Club in Washington at the Pan American Union Building. Sponsored by the Indiana Society of Washington for South and Central American Republic ambassadors and embassy officials. Senator Homer Capehart and wife hosted the event. The Glee Club returned to Purdue on Monday.
Mrs. Laura Sandefur Louise Ellis of Mays and Betty Smith joined Avon representatives at an afternoon tea held at the Franklin Country Club last Thursday. The gathering drew attendees from eleven counties in the district.
MM3c Jack Jackson was discharged February 3 at San Diego from the U S Navy. Mr and Mrs Jackson and their little son arrived in Carthage Sunday. He will return to his job at Remys in Anderson.
Jack Smith and his parents hosted a farewell party Sunday evening for Wayne Kolb son of Mr and Mrs Raymond Kolb. Carthage freshman class members attended. Refreshments included homemade ice cream cookies brownies and fudge. The group later watched a movie at Knightstown. Wayne Kolb will attend Franklin College in the near future.
Mr and Mrs Russell Roland and Mr and Mrs Edward Fenner left February 10 for a two week trip to Orlando and other points. Roy Robertson Jr and Harold Souder returned last Sunday from a nine day Florida visit and report a fine trip with plenty of sunshine.
Mrs Clarence Dulake of Carthage Route 2 underwent major surgery at Ball Memorial Hospital Munice last Saturday. She is listed in room 212.
Alien Skinner son of W H Skinner of Carthage was initiated into the Phi Delta Theta fraternity at Purdue University Wednesday night. Mr Skinner attended the ceremony.
Container Corporation of America reports earnings per share of 6.09 on 2,522,451 common shares for the year ended December 31 1955 up from 5.31 on 2,495,785 shares in 1954. Total 1955 earnings reach 15,703,399 with net sales at 215,554,921, preliminary figures with full annual report due March 5, 1956.
Graveside rites were held last Friday at 2 p.m. for William Dean Stoner stillborn son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stoner. Survivors include sister Christina Sue and four grandparents H. D. Stoner, Mrs. Grocox, Mr. and Mrs. David Grocox, alongside the parents.
The World Day of Prayer service will be held Friday February 17 at the Friends church with East Street Christian Carthage Friends Walnut Ridge Friends Nazarene and Wesleyan Methodist churches taking part. Rev. Eugene C Sommer will be the speaker.
Senator Richard Newhouse Morristown veteran legislator announces candidacy for renomination in the Indiana Republican primary. He represents the Fayette Rush Shelby district, first elected 1952, and previously Shelby in the House in 1947. He farms owns a hardware store and serves on conservation groups. wife Margaret Mainsell is a physician.
Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Skinner attended the annual Jefferson Jackson dinner Saturday night at the Murat Temple. Paul Butler, Democratic National Chairman, was the speaker. Fifteen hundred guests were present. Mr. Skinner was in charge of arrangements.

Charles Apple, 76, died at 7 15 Monday morning Feb 6 at his Greenfield home. Funeral services were held Wednesday. Survived by widow Mrs Mattie M Apple and three stepchildren Mrs Charles Alexander New Castle Mrs Bessie Fisher California and Mrs Maxine Robertson Carthage. Burial in Eden cemetery.
A revival will be held at the Church of the Nazarene from February 20 through March 4. Mrs. Nina Bane leads the preaching with Mrs. Mary Bane on piano and Mr. Harold Bane directing singing. Evening services start at 7 30 with special music each night. Rev Gerald Fleming, Pastor.
Knightstown visitors appear in local household gatherings as Mr. and Mrs. Dale Sipes and daughter visited the Jackson family Sunday evening. Mrs. Nonnie Pope and daughter Mary Jane dined with the Heims Monday noon. Finley Smith and family hosted Morgan Wyatt and daughter Janie from Knightstown for Monday supper. Hugh Roberts entertained Thursday night with Gene Richmond of Knightstown and others.
The sermon discusses spiritual growth as a result of feeding on Jesus teachings and resisting neglect of church duties. It compares soil to hearts that receive the word, urges personal responsibility to sustain church life, and notes Christ wept over Jerusalem for rejecting salvation. It calls for believers to mature and support their communities.
The Carthage Camera Club held a Wednesday night meeting at the Community Center with strong attendance. President Orville Becker led the business portion while Blanche Stevens of Knightstown presented photographs from Yellowstone National Park. Hostesses were Gererude Bush and Helen Nelson of Arlington.

The Past Matrons of the 12th district of the Order of Eastern Star held a Wednesday noon luncheon at the Community Center honoring Grand Worthy Matron Sister Velma Vanderkock. Fifty two members attended.

Mr and Mrs Homer Sparks of New Castle were Sunday guests of Mr and Mrs Gordon Sparks. The Art Club met at the Community Center Monday night for their regular meeting.
The Rush County extension advisory meeting on February 9, attended by 77 leaders from 77 groups, stressed leadership citizenship and character growth via 4-H and Rural Youth programs. Officers, budgets, and committees were elected and 1955 activity totals were reported, including 33 167 attendees at 896 meetings and numerous farm home visits and media outreach.
Leaders of Rush County Home Demonstration clubs gathered at the Farm Bureau Store on Friday February 10 for the year's first training session. Purdue specialist Mrs Lottie Sumner led a lesson on new fibers such as orlon dacron vicars dynal acrilan and saran and discussed fabric wear and care. Attendees included numerous club members from all townships across Rush county and nearby areas.
Show opens Friday February 24 and runs through Sunday March 4 at the State Fairgrounds. Headlined by Pat Rooney the stage show includes Sharkey the sea lion Frederico retriever dogs and other acts with a 75 000 square foot boat exhibit and trout pool. Admission is 1.10 for adults 0.50 for children with advance tickets at 0.85.
Mrs. Mary Taylor Mrs. Josephine Stevens and Mrs. Helen Graff were observed shopping in New Castle. The trio spent time at local stores and returned with purchases, reflecting a typical shopping day in the city.
Carthage Blue Raiders extended their win streak to six with a 73 69 victory over New Salem. Goddard scored 30 for New Salem, while Watkins 21, McClurg 15, Smith 11 and Parish 10 paced Carthage. Carthage Seconds defeated New Salem Seconds 46 37.
Pfc. Lyle O. Plank, 21, of Knightstown Indiana, participates in Exercise Moose Horn near Big Delta Alaska. The four week drill involves thousands of troops practicing tactical operations and cross country movement in arctic conditions. Plank is a gunner with Battery B 607th Armored Field Artillery Battalion Fort Richardson, married to Gloria, and has served since 1954 after Harrison High School Muncie graduation.
Sick list includes Mrs Grace Porter confined to bed with virus. Mrs James Terhune slowly improves from severe burns after clothing caught fire. Mrs Shirley McCoy and baby daughter recover from serious colds. Many people in and around Carthage ill with colds. Mrs Frank Elliott, formerly of Carthage, improves at her Rushville home. Mrs Ina Rhodes and Grant Henley remain about the same at home and hospital. Mrs Charles Mosier is serious at Rush Memorial Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Roberts and daughter Beth hosted a Saturday night supper with Wally Roberts family and Joe Roberts family from Lebanon to honor Mr. Roberts on his 70th birthday. Mrs. John Hartzler and daughter Carol and Mrs. Ethel Hartzler of Rushville visited Ina Rhodes and Mrs. Kenneth Rhodes on Tuesday afternoon. Forrest Beck stayed in Cincinnati Monday through Wednesday. Ed Bly and son Frank, Orba Fitch, Mike Watkins and Mrs. Kenneth Rhodes attended a double header game between Broad Ripple Shortridge and Cris pus Attucks and Manuel Thursday night. Kathy Smith, daughter of Finley and wife, had four teeth removed at Indianapolis Tuesday. Homer Hensler of Amboy visited with his son and wife through the week. Harold Ruby and son David joined C. W. Myers for Sunday dinner in Rushville.
Rush County Lions drive to fund east side awnings at Rush Memorial Hospital. Six clubs join forces with weekly hospital dining room meetings. A White Elephant sale at the Livestock Pavilion on February 18, plus a Lions wives country store, will raise funds and donations from county merchants. Arlington Lions hold a Fish Fry for noon and evening meals on the 18th.
The 14th annual Aberdeen Angus Breeders Association meeting convened at Wilhelm's Cafe with thirty members and guests present. Retiring president David McFarland presided as new officers were elected: President Sandy Phares Shelby County vice president Harold Barber Washington township secretary treasurer L E Stevens Noble township and directors David McFarland Washington township Donald Staten Jr Ripley and Robert Frazee Noble township.
A yearling heifer owned by Donald Staten and Son of Golden Dawn Farms was judged supreme champion by the Indiana Aberdeen Angus Association at the Indiana State Fairgrounds last week.
The Mays Lions Club hosted Carthage Club at the Mays club den with a ham and egg supper last Thursday. Rev. Myron S. Taylor of Center Christian Church was the principal speaker.
Mrs. Janice Pitts and her son Tom visited Mr. and Mrs. George Rhoades and their children in Knights Town last Wednesday, spending a day with the family.
