Robert Lytle of Alexandria known in the Carthage community died Thursday morning last week. Funeral services were held in Alexandria at 2 PM Saturday with burial in Alexandria.
A program titled For God and Country airs Sunday February 3 on CBS Channel 8 from 2 00 to 230 p m EST. It is sponsored by the National American Legion and Auxiliary and features West Point Chair the Secretary of State John Foster Dulles American Legion Commander W C Dan Daniel National Chaplain Bernard W Gordon and National President Mrs Carl W Zeller.
Mrs. John Wagner returns home improving from Rush Memorial Hospital. Paul Scott shows slow improvement at Rush Memorial. Mrs. Loren Baker undergoes major surgery at Henry Co. Hospital. Charles D. Moore seeks treatment at Rush Memorial. Mrs. Bayard Baker remains serious at Crystal City County Hospital. Mrs. Albert Leslie learns her mother in Fairmount has had a stroke and is serious in hospital.
Otis Mosley forty eight of Phoenix Arizona a brother of Jack Mosley near Mays was killed Monday near Phoenix by a highway department bulldozer during road construction. He was employed by the highway department. Survivors include his father J. K. Mosley of Phoenix a sister and three other brothers. Funeral services were held at Phoenix.
Mr and Mrs George Roland announce the birth of their daughter Danette Dawn weighing 6 pounds 12 ounces born January 31 at 12 45 am at the Army hospital Fort Campbell Kentucky. She is the granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Guther Hull and Mr and Mrs Russell Roland of Carthage.
Services were held Thursday at 2 30 p m for Forrest Robert Davis infant son of Mr and Mrs Joe Davis and grandson of Mr and Mrs Forrest Steward of Carthage. The infant born January 30 at Hancock County hospital lived only a few hours with burial at Town Cemetery. Thompson Funeral Home directed arrangements.
Miss Pamela Hunt appeared in the Dixon Dance Revue at the High School Auditorium in Connersville on January 30 and 31. Attending from Carthage were Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Hunt plus several local residents including Sheryl Mosier Edna Kennedy Judy Kennedy Lynn Kennedy Kelly Veatch Jimmy Ellis Dorothy McShurley Ralph McClarnon and Joe Duke of Pendleton.
Rush Lodge F and A M will hold a stated meeting on Wednesday February 6 at 7 30 p m at the Carthage Masonic Hall to conduct lodge business.
Donald Staten Jr of Rush County was elected president of the Southeastern Indiana Aberdeen Angus Breeders Association at the annual meeting. Other officers elected were Richard Gauch of Decatur County as vice president Howard Williams of Franklin County as secretary treasurer Clark Metcalf of Fayette County as assistant secretary treasurer and James Caldwell of Fayette County as sales manager.
The public is invited to view two Stewardship Films at Carthage Friends Church on Monday February 4 at 7 30 p m The selections are The Secret of the Gift and The Rich Fool chosen by the Five Years Meeting of Friends.

Ben H. Nelson age 68 died at his Arlington home after a yearlong illness from coronary occlusion. Born April 27, 1888 in Rush County he was a farmer. Surviving wife Mary Reames, three sisters and one brother. funeral at Thompson Funeral Home 2:00 p.m. Sunday with pastors Barrett and Schondelmayer. burial in East Hill Cemetery Arlington.
Walter P. Paepcke announced Thomas F. Cass William P. Hooker Frank G. Jones and David R. Riggs were elected vice presidents and Clarence H Seeley named secretary at a January 25 board meeting Cass to lead West Coast folding carton and boxboard operations Hooker to manage European interests Jones to supervise shipping plants and related facilities Riggs to oversee Boston Philadelphia Baltimore and Wilmington shipping plants and Wilminton paperboard mill Seeley to head law department and secretary duties Cass will report to Leo Schoenhofen Robinson to head four West Coast shipping container plants and report to Donald H Brewer
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Roland were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Prickett near Indianapolis. In the afternoon they called on Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zapf. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Myers and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Alexander of Rushville were Sunday evening visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ruby and family.

Survived by parents Shirley and Mrs Sorrell, grandfather John Gather, two aunts, two uncles, and several cousins. Services set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Butcher Funeral Home Knightstown with Rev. Rex Krieg officiating. Burial at Glencove Cemetery.
Rush County Fair Board met January 15 at the Extension Office to set official dates July 29 to August 2 1957. Ertle Price led the meeting announcing a rodeo on Wednesday evening and a schedule including Midget Races Tractor Pulling contests Horse Pulling Saddle Horse Show and rodeo across midweek with events on Monday Saturday Tuesday and Friday.
Carthage Lions Club held a regular session at the Community Center with President Clyde E. Ruby presiding. Five Arlington guests attended. Rev. Robert A. Shockney joined as a new member. The membership contest ended. James Ellis team won with a ham and egg supper prize to be served February 11. Lion Homer Hensler spoke on rabies.
The Four Township Farmers Institute at the Carthage Community Center named new officers and announced 4-H and open division awards. James Peck led with 525 points in 4-H, while 725 points topped the open agricultural division. Special gifts supported premiums, with 120 attendees enjoying lunch by Carthage Band Boosters.
Mrs Ruth Harrelson and Mrs Julia McMichael visited Shelbyville on Thursday evening they attended a luncheon at the Elks Club where Mrs McMichael spoke to the Business Woman's Organization. Her theme was Winning Ways With People.
Charlottesville Eagle basketball team defeated Carthage 80 66 fueled by 25 of 51 field goals and 30 of 37 free throws. Carthage hit 28 of 103 from the floor as Charlottesville improved despite a 4 loss season. McClurg 22 Parish 21 led Carthage. Holliday 23 Griffith 19 O’Neal 14 led Charlottesville. Carthage Seconds lost 34 32 in OT.
Carthage Raiders beat Waldron 54 53 at Waldron in a rough contest. Phil Parish and McClurg each scored 14 for Carthage while Schoefner led Waldron with 21 and Roser added 20. Carthage improves to 10 5. Waldron’s 2nd team lost 51 39 to Waldron seconds.
Mrs. Margaret Hinshaw traveled to Rushville on Wednesday evening to spend the remainder of winter with her niece Mrs. Roy Barker at 1011 Ft. Wayne Rd.
Mr and Mrs Edward Carroll traveled to Indianapolis on Tuesday to attend the Hardware Convention at the Murat Temple signaling a social engagement during the visit.
