Next Sunday December 30 college students will lead services at Fletcher Methodist Church. James Terhune graduating student from Indiana University will give a talk. Special music and entertainment are planned and all are invited to attend these services.
The Carthage Band Boosters announce no meeting in January as the date falls on New Year’s Eve. Members are advised to check for a new schedule posted later.
Mr and Mrs Noah Leisure of Carthage left last week for Florida to spend the winter months. Their address is 222 11th Ave North St. Petersburg. They report most flowers killed by the recent cold spell and leaves falling.
Relatives report Captain Thurman Porter Jr., son of Thurman Porter of Carthage, had a severe heart attack December 19 in Germany. He is in critical condition at Mackay Air Force Base Hospital Ramstein, with his wife and two children at his side in Germany.
Jimmy Zimmerman returned to his name Saturday from St. Vinezut's Hospital in Indianapolis after major surgery. Mrs. Fred McManus went home Saturday from Wyvert Lung Hospital. Mrs. John Bieschke remains convalescing at Bush Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Rosalind Stephens of Indianapolis, wife of Nelson Stephens, returned to 832 Mt. Dora Lane Monday after major surgery at Community Hospital.
Post office staff and spouses gathered for a Christmas dinner and social hour Saturday night at the Durbin Hotel in Rushville. Attendees included Postmaster William Alexander and Mrs. Alexander, Noah and Mrs. Brooks, Fred and Mrs. Flick, Carl Carson Jr. and Mrs. Carson, Jr., Charles Whitfield and Mrs. Whitfield, James Wintfield and Mrs. Wintfield, and Ralph Mosier with Mrs. Mosier.
Robert McKain trustee elect and his advisory board Stanford Lynch Worth Pitts and Robert White were sworn in last Saturday at the county clerk's office. They will assume office on January 1, 1963. McKain will have the trustee's office at his rural route home.
Several conservation clubs in this community have set a schedule for fox drives with starting points. The dates include December 29 Raleigh January 1 Blue Ridge and Charlottesville January 5 Homer January 12 Arlington January 16 Knights town January 19 open January 26 Rushville January town and February 2 Charlottesville.
The December 12 OES meeting featured a Christmas party and gift exchange. Goldie Kyser received a 50 year membership pin from Josephine Brown, Past Grand Worthy Matron, and Fred Sandefur was awarded a 25 year pin. Lovely Christmas refreshments were served by the Star Points.
Mrs Eugene I Gardner hosts the Twice Four Bridge Club at Mrs Delmer Sipes home due to slick country roads. Honors go to Mrs Sipes high, Mrs Ralph Moore second, and Mrs Forrest Beck low. Other guests include Mesdames Noah Brooks Wilbur Mc Corkle Marcus McClurg Ralph Mo sier and Lindley Taylor. A gift exchange and Christmas refreshments follow.
Woman's Day will be observed at Carthage Christian Church with Katherine Schutze speaker. Schutze directs CWF services for The United Christian Missionary Society and has a long career in missions, education, and church work. 4H enrollments for 1963 are due January 1 in the County Extension Office, including livestock projects and regular forms.
The Carthage Raiders face a strong New Salem tilt as 1962 games wind down. New Salem powered past Spiceland 107 to 72, setting two Noble County records with Doug Linville scoring 45. Arlington tops a 1958 mark but faces fresh tests. Morristown, Knightstown, and Charlottesville prep for holiday tournaments while the Rushville Tourney nears. Miss Rita Addison wins Rush County Good Citizens honors and eyes Purdue.
The Census Bureau will conduct the January Quarterly Household Survey in 333 areas, collecting data on residential alterations, repairs, and related expenditures. The survey also asks about food consumption, including beef, white bread, lettuce, milk, and apples, with local interviews led by Mildred Norvell of Manilla, Indiana.
The notice lists multiple holiday host households in Indiana. Families in Carthage Indianapolis Acton Rushville Dugger Ft Wayne Arlington Knightstown Muncie and other towns hosted Christmas Eve and Day meals with relatives and friends including Bussard Manche Fenner Fowler Brown McCorkle Wagner Fitch Rucker and others.
Mr and Mrs Russell Leisure joined 27 guests for Christmas dinner at Mr and Mrs Richard Yarling home in Indianapolis. Linda and Sherry Yarling, nieces of Mrs Leisure, will fly with Ben Davis High School Band to Pasadena to play in the Rose Bowl Parade on New Year’s day and later appear at Disneyland and on Hollywood TV shows.
Liberty downed visiting Carthage 63 56 to snap a six game skid. Kit Porter led with 20 points for Liberty while Ron Weidner added 14 for the Raiders. Patterson and Loveall led Carthage with 14 and 4 rebounds respectively. Score by quarters showed Liberty pulled away after intermission and held on for the win.
The Church of Christ at Little Blue River aids a Wellington New Zealand mission. Wayne and 35 others depart December 29 for one month of teaching and outreach. A January 25 meeting in the town hall plans a 1,200 seat event with cottage meetings and Q A sessions. Two workers remain in Valdosta, Georgia, with two more joining next May to total four full time workers.
