Entry gained by prying loose bars from the east rear office window. Thieves unlocked a rear door with a desk key and took a shotgun valued at $20 and $20 in silver cash. Sheriff-elect Dallas Hardwick and state police detective Russell Coons investigated, but no arrests were made.
Clarence A. Jackson reports more than ten thousand store owners have applied for 1935 licenses since mailed to current licensees only a week ago. New licenses due January 1, fees $8 plus 50 cents filing, up to 150 per chain. Public schools churches and similar groups require licenses and gross income tax is due January 1-30.
Funeral services for Miss Bernice Addison were held at Arlington M E Church at 2 00 Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev Gladys Marsh. The 21 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Thos Addison died last Friday at Arlington after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her parents a sister Mrs Irene Talbert of Morristown and brothers Hugh and Ross Addison of Arlington. Several relatives attended from nearby towns.
Sheriff Ed Compton was struck by a southbound Big Four freight train at West Third Street crossing in Rushville last Saturday morning. His auto skidded on a slippery street and slid into the Boron car as the freight proceeded slowly. Compton’s injuries were not serious and he will retire from duty January 1.

A townwide series of nightly services runs Sunday through Friday at local churches including Friends, Wesleyan Methodist, Christian, and Fletcher M E. Each evening at 7:00 PM speakers include Geo Holwager Rev Glover Dr Furby Rev Schoolfield and Rev Furday. No services Saturday. The aim is a united deepening of the religious life under the theme The Meaning of Christianity for Today.

The Golden Legion Bible Reading schedule for 1935, announced by Standard Publishing Co. of Cincinnati, entails about ten minutes of daily reading from both Old and New Testaments starting with Job. The plan, already used by Hannegan church, aims to foster thorough acquaintance with the Bible and will be published in this paper for Carthage and Hannegan churches.
Miss Julia Dale Addison and Willard Cox of Newcastle married by candle-light on Christmas night at the bride’s home. Rev. E L Glover officiated. The couple plan to continue their current jobs in Newcastle La Porte and at the grocery store. Attendants included family and friends from Newcastle and local communities.
