Mr and Mrs Stanford Lynch of Carthage report the birth of a son Michael Ray Friday morning at Rush Memorial Hospital. Another son was born to Mr and Mrs John Rucker of Carthage Thursday night at Rush Memorial Hospital.
The official church board of East St. Christian church will hold a meeting Friday at 7 p m at the church.
Earl Carter began a brief expedition with the Iowa Mountaineers in Mexico after leaving Saturday for a mountain climbing trip. He is Lawrence Carter’s brother and plans a visit to Carthage in the near future.
Mrs Opal Nelson left Sunday to spend the Christmas holidays with A-30 and Mrs William Lockridge at Houston Texas.
Mrs. Ann Parish, local agent for license plates, has been informed the new 1953 plates will go on sale January 2.
The event will confer the Past Masters Degree on Tuesday at the Masonic home. All Past Masters are asked to attend.
Celia Stevens, a dancing teacher based in Indianapolis, will be unavailable for lessons next Monday evening.
Airman Walby McClurg is home in Cheyenne Wyoming until December 29 for the holidays. Gary Stewart, home from officer candidate school in Georgia, visits his parents Mr and Mrs Gerald Stewart. Louis Zimmerman and DeWayne Whitfield return for Christmas from Ft Leonard Wood Missouri for short leaves to visit their wives and parents in Carthage. Lt Donald Staten Jr arrived home from Labrador base for a few days.
PFC Donald Robert McColley of Carthage Indiana is awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge for valor under fire. He serves with Company C of the 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, Oklahoma National Guard, which arrived in Korea in December 1951. McColley entered the Army last January and arrived in Korea in July as a machine gunner.
Purdue extension nutritionist Lois Oberhelman advises buffet placement to suit room size, with center room layouts using a low centerpiece. She notes wall placements allow higher decorations and outlines a simple, stress free menu including scalloped chicken, cranberries, corn, salads, rolls, coffee and ice cream.
Tom Halterman of Rusville Township won the sweepstakes in the Rush County Corn Show, with the best ten cars in open and 4-H. Robert Lee Smith of Noble Township won the twenty-five car sweepstakes. Doris Kinnett and James Gray also claimed multiple class wins across shelled peck and soybean events.
Mrs. Russell Parish attended a luncheon Friday at the Claypool Hotel in Indianapolis hosted for license bureau branch managers.
Justin Reynolds, father of the late James A. Reynolds, fell Monday evening at his home and fractured his hip. He was transported to Rush Memorial Hospital by Thompson ambulance.
Mr and Mrs Paul Moore and their children visited Mrs Moore father Curtis Pollard at St Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis Saturday. Pollard is getting along nicely.
Lewis Lafuse of Ripley Township was reelected chairman of the Rush County Livestock Marketing and Improvement Association at its annual meeting on December 17. Officers and directors were reelected, a county disease control committee was named, delegates to the Cincinnati Producers meeting chosen, and plans discussed for 1953 livestock activities including a new breeders directory and a T B testing program.
A Ripley to Conservation Club drive held last Wednesday morning and evening near Carthage involved about forty men. Two drives to the east and west drew participants from local and out of town, including a hunter from Indianapolis with a muzzle loading shotgun.
Mrs Ella Nelson was ill Monday evening but now reported a bit better. Sam L Newsom remains in stable condition at his home. Mrs Lena Newsom underwent partial treatment and is listed in satisfactory condition.
Leonard Jackson reports a big Farmers Institute planned for Carthage on January 29 and 30 with 268 members. Purdue speakers Victor Bryan of Gaston and Mrs James Lawson of Greensburg will address topics including Are You a Success and Spotlight on America. 4 H and adult classes, home economics and agricultural exhibits, and Talent Night with prizes are planned.
Mrs Jones of New Castle has returned from the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to her sister Mrs A J Carr near Knightstown. She is improving nicely.
The Ripley Township Christmas Seal drive shows $292.30 raised toward a $340.00 quota. If you have not donated, send your contribution today to Mrs. Kenneth Rhodes, chairman.
Ripley Township leads Rush County with 37 landowners signing petitions toward forming a Soil Conservation District, the ninth township to reach the threshold. A public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon January 13 with the State Soil Conservation Committee to discuss formation and possible referendum. Other townships are expected to qualify before the hearing.
Legion defeats Arlington again as a local public notice confirms Dec 26 post office hours. Carthage will operate 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. and 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. to receive and dispatch mail. Mail truck service continues on all mail days. Postmaster Joseph E Porter signs the order.

Purdue economists Bauman and Fitzpatrick surveyed 127 central Indiana farms to compare hand and power loading of manure. Break-even is 100 tons. under that, hand loading cheapest, over that power loading wins. Hand loading with one to three men varied costs from 1.61 to 1.80 dollars per ton. adapting barns to power loaders adds about 185 dollars per farm.
