A College of Music at Butler University spent the weekend in Mansfield Ohio presenting a ballet program at the Civic. The event showcased student performers and featured a series of classical ballet pieces.
The Carthage Brotherhood and Sisterhood held its regular meeting at the Community Center. Roy Stanley opened with scripture and prayer then led the secretary's report. Officers elected: president Roy Stanley. 1st vice president A W Working. 2nd vice president Charles Mosier. secretary Marie Tribby. assistant secretary-treasurer Mrs Albert Ray. trustees William Nelson Lon McCorkle Donald Jessup.
The Triple Trio of Carthage High School filmed a program for WISH-TV as a special night at the Anderson Auditorium. The project, originally set for December 2, aired yesterday at 9:30 AM on Channel 8. The trio apologizes for the tape ringing misinformation and hopes locals enjoyed the broadcast.
Approval of loans to Bloomington Laurel and Carthage by the Housing and Home Finance Agency under the accelerated public works program. Bloomington gets 255100 for an interceptor sewer and lift station with total project cost 510000. Laurel receives 22420 for a sewage treatment plant with total cost about 112100. Carthage gains 86000 to aid a 172000 sewage treatment plant.
State officers of the Christian Youth Fellowship joined Rev. Robert Kendall for a planning retreat at the Christian Church. Attendees included president Miss Judy Huber of Richmond, Miss Judy Burns, Robert Smythe of Indianapolis, and Ron Jones of Jeffersonville. they stayed at the parsonage.
A nine member Christian Youth Fellowship group visited the Rush County Home near Rushville last Sunday evening. They held a devotional period and sang Christmas carols for the residents. Rev and Mrs Robert Kendall and Mr Robert Smythe of Indianapolis accompanied the group and participated.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Deboard and daughter Teresa and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ward visited Olive Hill Kentucky for the weekend and attended the funeral of Hilger Davis on Sunday. Davis was a brother in law to Deboard and Ward and relatives gathered at his home.

After a big snow storm Tuesday night the streets and sidewalks looked well cleared. Congratulations to Hugh Trowbridge and his crew for removing as much snow as possible.
A general session in a room covered officers responses and duties for the coming hundred eight, as clubs from Rush County attended the training.

Bob Winters announced the Connersville office of Winters Accounting Service is permanently closed. A portion of the practice was sold to Donald R. Rom berg who will operate under his name. Carthage office now handles most Connersville business. Rich ard Jackson Er cell Bever Jr. Reuben Davis and William Alexander join the local office.
The Carthage School gym hosted the December PTO meeting on Tuesday December 10. President Thomas Shields opened with devotions by Rev Bray. Mrs Sue Land and Mr Bob Edwards led the program as grades performed songs the Story of Christmas and the high school chorus and junior senior bands offered Christmas selections.
Morristown's freshman team, led by Jerry Bass' brother with 35 points, beat Rushville 67 to 47 to extend the Jackets’ week. The varsity Raiders face scrutiny as two players were criticized for loafing under tournament pressure. Morristown notches seventh win, with No. 8 following against Wilkinson.
The Twice Four Bridge Club held a fried chicken dinner at J&E Cafe in Carthage last Thursday. Afterward the group socialized and exchanged gifts at Mrs. Markes Mc Clurg’s home with attendees including Mrs. Noah Brooks, Mrs. Delmer Sipes, Mrs. Wilbur McCorkle, Mrs. Forrest Beck, Mrs. Ralph Mosier, and Mrs. Lindley Taylor. Mrs. Eugene I. Gardner could not attend due to slick roads.
Nine high schools with under 50 pupils each will close after this year for failing to meet state standards. The State General Education Commission decommissioned Washington Township Belle Union Clay County Pree dom Jefferson Township Owen County Pinnell Boone County Stendal Spurgeon Pike County Wallace Fountain Russellville Putnam. No action against the elementary schools sharing buildings. A Warren County one room school at State Line also decommissioned.

Carthage defeated Morton 83 to 52 in a listless game last Friday night. The Raiders led by wide margins each quarter after a 12 all first quarter stalemate. Carthage coach Jordan used reserves and Mike Lafuse was out sick. Carthage shot 39 of 80 from the field while Morton made 23 of 60.
Rush County Coaches and Principals Association outlined drawings for three basketball tournaments and plans for the county's first junior high track meet next spring. The junior highs will hold two tours on Feb 6 and 8 with winners decided later, while the varsity county tourney is set for Jan 16 and 18 at Memorial Gym.
Mr and Mrs George Roland hosted their Euchre Club at their new country home on R R 1 Saturday night. Honors went to Rex Edwards high Kenneth Leisure most Kans as and David Oakes. Refreshments served to Oakes Leisure Ray Edwards Muir and Roland couples.
Spiceland High School announced doors open at 6 15 for a Friday ball game with 50 and 75 cent admission. B team starts at 6 45. Semester ends soon with exams likely January 7 8 and 9. CHS Christmas break begins after the program with classes resuming January 2.
Mrs. Georgeann Elliott remains in Madison State Hospital after a July broken hip and enjoys receiving cards. Oran Henley convalesces at his Carthage home. Mrs. Jane Nigh recovers from a broken hip at her daughter’s home. Herbie Beher stays about the same in Carthage. Mrs. Henry Lesley improves at home after weeks in bed. Howard Henley remains at Rush Memorial Hospital. Miss Billie Jean Henley, daughter of Clarence Henley, is in Methodist Hospital after foot surgery, room 555B at the hospital.
Masons in Carthage and nearby towns join a state wide observance of the Feast of St John the Evangelist on Dec 27. Grand Master Judge Arthur A Osburn authorized a table lodge ceremony with music and talks in Greensboro and Shirley lodges as part of Indiana’s dual patron saint program. Sunday evening supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Davis and family at RR 2 included Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wasson and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Alexander and Leisure, and Miss Gloria Davis of Knightstown.
Two men posing as electrical inspectors entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lesley and demanded $31.00. Neighbors saw a Studebaker Lark with a side emblem parked nearby as Town Marshal Trowbridge and state police investigated. Town residents contributed money to aid the couple.
Mr. and Mrs. Dale May and their sons visited Indianapolis Sunday evening, spending time with local acquaintances and touring attractions in the city.
