Carthage lights up the season with a public square tree and storefront decorations. Four high school trumpeters Mike Ruby Gary Clayton David Ruby and Jimmy Ellis played Christmas songs in the square during the midmorning, adding to the festive mood.

Mrs Ralph McClurg has accepted a position as clerk bookkeeper at The Carthage Radio and Appliance Shop in a recent appointment.
Charles Heim and his family from Santa Monica are visiting his brothers and parents Mr and Mrs Ernest Heim. They will return to California on Monday and cannot spend Christmas in town.
Mr and Mrs Frank Hampton attended a Christmas dinner party meeting Tuesday evening of the Hancock County Funeral Directors at the Ross Motel dining room on state road 40.

Mrs Flora Heim reports a letter from Mrs Eric Loges of 209 South Road Lindamere Wilmington Delaware formerly Sarah Grabhorn a Carthage mathematics teacher 1927 to 1933. She could not attend last year due to her husband’s illness and death in September and plans to visit Carthage friends during the holiday season at 426 Euclid Ave Indianapolis.

The Ripley Township Farm Bureau elected Cecil Pike as president Donald Staten Jr as vice president and Ralph Truitt as secretary treasurer for 1958. Officials plan to skip meetings during peak farming months and outline programs at later sessions. The next meeting is set for Monday January 20 1958.

The Charlottesville Woman's Christian Temperance Union met Wednesday with Nellie Macy leading devotions and readings from Isaiah and Luke. Ida Jessup led discussions on alcohol on the open road and what God says about drink, followed by a Christmas story by Mthelda Stewart and readings from Union Signal. The meeting closed with prayer by Fhelma Cooper and a Christmas exchange with hostess refreshments.

The following Thursday the gym convocation opened with a pledge by Student Council president John Hunt and a speech on Conversion by Rev. C. L. Davis of the Fletcher Methodist Church.
Refereeing The Charlottesville Eagles defeated the Mc Cordsville Pirates 66 to 53 on the Pirates home floor. Oakes led scorers with 17, Holliday 15, Kitner 13, and Denny 14. The Pirates rallied in the final quarter but failed to overcome the early Eagle lead. East Central Conference announced freshman basketball dates January 23 and 25 with finals at Spiceland.
