Raiders Chalk Up Two Wins

The Carthage Blue Raiders defeated Westland 40 to 24 at home, breaking open after halftime as Spacey scored 12 and Max Hunt 11. Westland’s eighth straight loss followed a 14 point first half, with poor free throw shooting on both sides.

Income tax forms mailed for 1941 filing season

Gilbert K. Hewitt announces that more than twelve tons of gross income tax forms are being mailed to 150 licensing branches and taxpayers statewide before the January 1 filing period. Tax returns are required for those with gross income or receipts over 1000 dollars for 1941, with deductions for non taxable income. The regular exemption is 1000 dollars, while retail merchants have a 250 dollar monthly exemption totaling 3000 dollars for 1941, not in addition to the 1000 dollar standard.

J. T. McDaniel Dies Saturday

J T McDaniel born Rush county January 20 1867 died at home south of Carthage December 13 at age 74. He married Charlotte Kraus November 3 1894 in Tuscolla Illinois and moved to this county 36 years ago. Known as Jerry McDaniel he was generous and helped neighbors. Funeral at Carthage Friends church with Rev Murray S Kenworthy. burial East Hill Arlington.

Christmas baskets donation drive urged by cheer committees

The Cheer Committee asks for food, cash, and gifts to support Christmas baskets. Bring canned fruits and vegetables, potatoes, apples, meats, or other foods to the Methodist church by Monday or Tuesday morning the 28th with a preference for Monday. Cash gifts go to Rev. S. M. Riggle or the bank, and toys and clothing should be secured this week ahead of Monday.

Scouts Award Ceremony Honors Carthage Troop Members

Scout members received Tender foot badges for Carthage Troop 26 and Arlington Troop 28 at a ceremony in Whitewater Valley. Second Class and Merit badges were awarded to several scouts, with ribbons given for reaching membership goals for 1941. The event featured a Carthage High School band, speakers, and an array of out of town guests from Richmond Connersville and Arlington.

Ripley township Farm Bureau members met Monday night at the school to showcase corn and cake presented by 4H club members and the Farm Bureau. Barber Kyser Dies At Home In Carthage At 60

Michael S. Kyser a longtime Carthage barber died at his home from a stroke Thursday morning at 6:45 pm. He was born January 28 1881 in Hancock county and married Gouldie Hiatt in 1913. Survived by wife daughter Sharlee sister and four brothers. Final rites were held at Friends church with Rev. Murray S. Kenworthy officiating. Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery Carthage.
