Miss Ruth Henley is in Reid Memorial Hospital Richmond for treatment and is improving. Miss Thelma Gray has returned home from Hancock County hospital and is improving slowly.
Mr and Mrs Oran Henley and their daughter Miss Lillian Henley have returned after several weeks in Florida. They visited beaches and returned by train, reporting a pleasant vacation and good weather.
Mr and Mrs William Lockridge moved Wednesday to New Castle where they will reside. They have lived with her grandparents Mr and Mrs Harry Elder since returning from service.
Mrs Blanche Wolf Leachman, long time Carthage resident with the late Mr and Mrs J G Wolf, is seriously ill in a St Petersburg Florida hospital. She and her brother resided together and her condition has been poor for some time. She will be remembered by several in the community.
Judge Fred Rakestraw of the Fulton circuit court sustained a petition to recount ballots from the November 8 Akron Indiana clerk treasurer race. A recount commission was named and will begin tabulation at Akron Town Hall Monday. Rakestraw is noted as a grandson of Mrs Mary Michael Rakestraw.
A group of friends held a surprise anniversary party Friday evening for Mr and Mrs Henry L Stinger. Red roses were presented and refreshments served during a very enjoyable gathering.
The Lions Club of Charlottes ville held a Wednesday evening meeting at the school auditorium with a dinner. Henry L. Stinger was guest speaker during the program.
Mrs Flora Markland of the Mays community fell on her back steps Saturday but escaped with no broken bones. She and her daughter Mrs Jack Mosley were involved in a serious automobile wreck a few months prior.
Mr and Mrs Cecil Pike and Mrs Gertrude Jessup visited Mrs Jessups brother Forrest Souder in Greenfield Sunday afternoon. Mr Souder has just returned from the Methodist hospital.
Mr and Mrs Howard E Henley and Mr and Mrs Paul Wolf of Morristown attended a historical society dinner at the Claypool Hotel in Indianapolis on Saturday.
James T. Miller and his sons have purchased the remaining half interest in the Sinclair Service Station on North Main Street from Roy Hearne and renamed it Miller's Sinclair Service. The transaction effective date is December 1, with Miller, his two sons J. B. (Bill) and Clifford, and son in law Gary Stewart comprising the staff.
A farmhouse on the Everette Nugent farm near Carthage burned to the ground Tuesday night. The Sweet family reportedly resided there. Firefighters could not save the dwelling despite a call from the Carthage Fire Truck.
Mrs. A W Winfield flew to Houston Texas last Sunday with their daughter Mrs Spencer Lloyd and family who live there Mr Lloyd was operated on Wednesday and Mr Winfield may join them for Christmas holidays later.
James A. Alsman was removed to the Veterans Hospital at Indianapolis in the Thompson ambulance Monday.
David Hull has been discharged and returned to residence with Mrs. Hull at Roy Turner apartment on South Main Street. He has taken employment as a carpenter with Henley and Mosier contractors.

The Carthage Lions plan a special annual party next Friday night at the Community Center for Ripley Township school children. Parents are asked to bring their children to attend the event and enjoy the Lions Club celebration.
Walby McClurg son of Mr and Mrs Thomas McClurg has returned home after discharge from the Air Corps. He arrived by plane via New York and Indianapolis from Germany fulfilling his service.
April Marie Parsons, infant daughter of Mr and Mrs William Parsons, died at home on East Second Street Thursday morning at 4 o clock. Funeral services set for 10 o clock Friday at Thompson Funeral Home with burial in Town Cemetery.
Kenny Si announces the Coun try Jamboree TV Show will air at Carthage Community Center every Saturday at 7:60 p m DST starting December 17, 1955. The nineteen member cast includes Lulu Bell Si Bill Ramble Bobby Pease Sammy Scott and the Davis Sisters with a talent contest. A square dance follows with the Country Folk String Band from 9:00 p m to 12:30 a m.
Mrs Ruth Baker Schaper 38 of Dayton Ohio died suddenly from pneumonia in a Dayton hospital Tuesday. Born near Carthage September 18 1917 she was a daughter of Lee and Anna Tarbet Baker. She visited Rush County and was in Rushville last week. Niece of Mrs Nora McFatridge and James Tarbet of Rushville. Funeral Friday at 9 in Dayton with burial there.
County 4-H members aged 10 to 20 must file enrollment cards for beef calf club dairy and other projects with the County Extension Office by January 1. Cards enable state fair eligibility and can be obtained from local leaders or the Extension Office. Dairy and beef heifer papers must be in the member’s name or transferred before January 1.

Arlington Wildcats defeated Carthage Raiders 73 to 62 on Arlington court amid 41 personal fouls and 68 free throws. Sunman and Kramer controlled rebounds as Arlington built an 11 point edge. Carthage led early but fouls and free throws swung the game. The second team fell 34-33 in a late rally. Milroy edged Carthage in two overtimes 90-88 as Gary McClurg sank the winner. the game set a record for 178 total points in Rush County.
The Carthage schools announce two performances of the Annual Christmas Program on Thursday December 22 in the High School Gym. The 2:00 p m show is mainly for students while adults may attend. 7:30 p m is open to all. The program features A Christmas Carol Pageant by Grades 1-6 with nativity scenes and carols, followed by Christmas music by the Junior Band Junior High Chorus Senior Chorus and Senior Band including O Holy Night White Christmas and Break Forth O Beautious Heavenly Light.
Phillip Dyer of Center Township led Rush County in the 5 acre corn yield contest with 144 bushels per acre using Indiana Hybrid 680 in 40 inch rows. Don Meyers of Noble Township was runner up at 141 bu an acre with Indiana Certified 813 in 40 inch rows. Senior 5 acre contest honors went to 12 growers over 125 bu per acre, including Everett Stanley Center Township 136, Fred Walker Noble Township 136, George Riggs Richland Township 135, Donald Stoten Jr Ripley Township 134, Clarence Dyer Center Township 132, John Walker Noble Township 129, Donald Stoten Jr Ripley 128, J R Brown Jackson Township 127, Howard Earnest Walker Township 127, Roy Swain Posey Township 126, Haydon King Center Township 125.
County recorder Olive L. Miller filed November transfers totaling about 321000 with Rushville deals dominating at 75000 for the Dill Foundry parcel to Perfect Circle and the Kroger site sale. Rushville sales totaled about 176000, farm deals 122000, and smaller-town property 23000 with two large transactions noted. Local transfers include Robert Blessinger and Ethel to Joseph and Mollie Stephens in Carthage and Maude Porter with Jeanne and Howard Windsor to Paul and Nora Patterson in Carthage.
Representatives from six Rush County Lions Clubs met to decide on adding awnings to the hospital building east and south sides if funds allow. The 1954 west wing funding by residents is noted, with 1984 style financing planned. An all day sale at the Fair Ground Pavilion is set for Saturday February 18, with fish fry by Arlington Club and clubs offering salads baked beans and pies. The Carthage Citizen and The Sporting News announce the Football Bowl Contest closing date is December 30 1955 Entries must reach The Sporting News offices at 2018 Washington Avenue St Louis MO by noon that day Entry by air mail is advised to avoid holiday mail delays and possible disqualification for late entries.
Carthage merchants funded and installed festive Christmas lights downtown with contributions from a broad local list. The Lions Club provided a large public square tree, lit again this year, while donors included businesses such as Carthage Tractor & Implement Co and Jacobson's Restaurant among many others.
The Carthage Lions Club entertained its wives families and guests with a 75 person Christmas turkey dinner and program at the Community Center. A gift exchange followed a brief business session led by Hugh Trowbridge Eugene R. Gardner and Harold Souder. Beverly Dickinson Dancing School provided tap and specialty acts from Connersville.
Arlington resident David E. Henley was arrested by Town Marshal Hugh Trowbridge last Friday night for speeding. He was arraigned in justice of peace court and paid a $14.90 fine on Saturday.
Miss Carol V. Ewing a Carthage High School senior earned a letter signaling she was chosen as an outstanding girl to represent teen views on the Farm Journal teen advisory board. From 350 girls 100 will be selected, with final results soon. The Civics class reads the American Observer weekly noting Christmas customs around the world from Mexico to Albania.
