County Beef Herds Win Fair Honors
The A. J. Meyer and sons Shorthorn herd from Noble township won multiple Decatur County fair honors including champion and reserve champion Shorthorn bull, champion Shorthorn heifer, and top get-of-sire. Other herd placings included senior yearling bulls and heifers, junior yearling entries, and prize pairs. Bernard Lessing of Richland township exhibited the reserve champion Shorthorn female and various calves at the Centerville District Medal Show.

Eye Injury Ends Jimmie Norris Eye by Indianapolis Hospital
Jimmie Norris twelve son of Mr and Mrs Paul Norris Rushville formerly Carthage suffered a serious eye injury Monday afternoon. A BB rifle shot at a glass jug caused the pellet to bounce back into his eye through his glasses. He was taken to an Indianapolis eye specialist and then to St Vincent's Hospital room 426 where the eye was removed.

Former Carthage Resident J E Campbell Dies
Mrs. J E Campbell a former Carthage resident died August 12 at the Masonic Home in Dousman Wisconsin and was buried at Oconomowoe Wisconsin. She had been in poor health and bedfast for months. Mr Campbell remains in the same hospital in poor health. The couple lived in Carthage for several years when Mr Campbell served as Big Four agent here.

Thousands of Hoosiers will view the Indiana Department of Conservation display at the 1956 Indiana State Fair running August 28 through September 7. Eight divisions in the Conservation Building will showcase water conservation forest management and recreational facilities with outside displays of large fish and wildlife. A pen of coturnix quail drawn by Harley G. Hook is expected to attract much attention as sportsmen anticipate a potential new quail breed for Indiana.

Price record set at Rushville 4-H barrow show sale
Kingan Packing Co of Indianapolis bought the grand champion barrow for 2.00 a pound, $400 total, the highest Rush County barrow price. Grand champion was a 200 pound pure bred Yorkshire shown by Tom Judge of Shirley. The sale drew 132 head from nine counties with 58 exhibitors, judged by Robert Shannon and Purdue staff, and sponsored by the Rushville Junior Chamber of Commerce.
