County conservation officer Glen Conner reminds hunters the squirrel season begins at daybreak Saturday and runs through October 13. Bag and possession limits are five squirrels, gray or fox.
Hugh Weber had surgery at Methodist Hospital Indianapolis and is home. Mrs Lucille Phelps of Goshen expects to walk soon after convalescing from a broken hip. Mrs James Whitfield recovers from major surgery at home in Carthage. Mike Lafuse convalesces at Rush Memorial Hospital with a broken leg. Mrs Phillip Sattler convalesces at Rush Memorial Hospital from a broken hip. Floyd Reddick and daughter Mrs Lowell Geise have been released from Rush Memorial Hospital.
The Tweedy Community Center Board and officials announced the 1964 Cartage Fall Festival to run September 23 through 26. Roy Small is named Festival Chairman with Gary Stewart and Albert Ray as Vice Chairs, and other appointments were made. A public meeting is planned for Wednesday August 19 with all organizations invited to attend.
Carthage visitors enjoyed a weekend at Lieber State Park with camping and boating. Rex Edwards and family, Jerry Edwards and daughters, Fletcher Edwards, Delmer Sipes and Patricia, Steve Harvey of Knightstown, Ralph Mosier family, Sipes family, John Cass and Christa of Cumberland participated in the outing.
Several Nazarenes from Nazarene Church of Carthage gathered Sunday afternoon at the church camp grounds in Camby Indiana for Camp Day. Attendees included Rev and Mrs William Bray and daughters John Bray Mr and Mrs Albert Steward and children Mr and Mrs Bob Edwards and sons Mr and Mrs Billy Hinton and daughters Essie Bowling Mr and Mrs Cledis Nolen and daughters Mrs Norman Jones and sons Jim mie Wells Mrs Tony Riley and daughter and Mr and Mrs Bill Jones and family of Knightstown.
Mr and Mrs Bill Akers relocate from Carthage with two sons to Danville Illinois where Mr Akers takes a position as an instrument technician at Tee Pak company.
The Starks reunion was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Norman Fuchs in Carthage with 65 attendees. Guests included Urban Stark, Clyde Crawford, Donald Stark of Indianapolis, Clarence Swaney, George Nickeloff, Bob Hurlburt, Jerry Berkholder and families, Venice Zuiebel and daughters from Wapak, Tandy Scott, Jim Baker and families, Dorothy Stark, Lloyd Bowers and daughter from Detroit, Bill Lewis and family, Harry Richmond and son, Harold Gibson and family, Vonnie Church, and Stanley Back. Special entertainment was provided by Ruby Swaney of Lima.
Mr. and Mrs. Unn Fitch, Mr. and Mrs. Howard McCorkle of here, and Mr. and Mrs. DelMonte Wagner of Arlington spent from Friday until Sunday at Silver Lake in northern Indiana.
Dr George Pierson district veterinarian announces a Brucellosis and TB testing program in Ripley Township. Dr Philip Dyer will test cattle, aiming for annual township coverage to keep Rush County disease free. Tests are free, with age and herd exemptions noted. prior testing in Posey Township.
The Mixers Home Economics Club held a cooperative picnic at Sun Set Park in Knightstown for its August meeting. Mrs. Robert White gave the Grace. Guest Ed Carroll and his sons Pat and Jimmy, formerly of Rochester, Indiana, attended. Exhibits for the State Fair must be delivered to Mrs. Shields, Mrs. Wright, or Mrs. White by August 18, 1964. The next meeting is September 11 at Mrs. Marvin Johnsons home.
The Fidelity Class of the Methodist Church invites members, families, and guests to a wiener roast on Sunday evening at 6 30 on the church lawn. Each family should bring a covered dish wieners buns and table service.
Mr and Mrs Carl Carson Jr and family Mr and Mrs Russell Siler and family and Mr and Mrs Carl Carson Sr attend the Pearson Reunion Sunday at Hekin Park in Muncie.
Sixty five contestants from counties statewide enter the seventh annual Miss Indiana State Fair contest. Preliminaries begin Friday August 28 with finals set for Saturday August 29. The winner becomes the fair hostess with public appearances until a successor is chosen and receives a 500 dollar savings bond, clothing valued around 200 dollars, and a large trophy. First and second runners up receive 100 and 50 dollar savings bonds respectively. Miss Sharon Lou Schreeg of Rensselaer crowns the new queen at the 8 PM Farmers Building program opening day of the fair, which runs through September 9.
A bridal shower for Mrs. Sue Leisure Davis was held August 7 1964 at 7 30 p m in the Carthage Community Center. Hostesses included Marilyn Pitts Cindy Brooks Cynthia Pearson Patricia Sipes Carol Ann Ellis Patty Tribby Sandy Davis Bernita Logan Karen Petry Linda Miller and Reta Stanley. Guests were registered by Patricia Sipes and gifts assisted by Karen Petry Reta Stanley and Cindy Brooks.
The Community School Corporation of Southern Hancock County announces Keith R. Davis will head New Palestine High School for 1964 65 serving grades 7 through 12. Davis has been Greenfield High principal and Athletic Director and previously led Boston Township and Manuel High Schools.
Weekend guests included Mr. and Mrs. Virgil McKee and their children from Columbus Ohio. They accompanied Tena Lacy to the Lukens home where she had spent a week as a guest of Kim McKee. Also present Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Sam Gray and their children.
Jan Pitts daughter of Mr and Mrs Odelloe spent Friday night as a guest of Mr and Mrs Paul Smith and their family.
Mr and Mrs Russell Shutt Jr of Carthage returned from a five week camper trip covering 9600 miles to Fairbanks and Anchorage Alaska. They traveled through the northern United States Canada and Alaska along the Alcan Highway and visited Mt McKinley and Dawson City panned for gold saw wildlife and returned with a six week old Siberian huskie as a souvenir.
A girl was born Monday to Mr and Mrs Charles Butler of Carthage at Rush Memorial.
Mr and Mrs DeWayne Roland of Greenfield announce the birth of a daughter Sheryl Lynn on August 7 at Hancock Memorial Hospital. Maternal grandmother is Mrs Lorraine Plank of Knightstown and paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Virgil Roland of Greenfield. Roland is the former Karen Plane.
The guidance director Mr Robert L Damm and principal Mr B E Smith call all seniors to meet in Room 34 at 7:00 p m on Wednesday August 26 for group discussion of class schedules and individual counseling The school year begins with an organization day on September 4 and first day of school September 8 1964.

Mrs. Howard Windsor of Carthage and Mrs. Thomas Snell of New Castle attended the Turandot performance at Memorial Stadium Indiana University last Wednesday night and visited Mrs. Windsor’s son Kelly Veach.

Kirby Overman, formerly assistant basketball coach at Arlington, becomes Otterbein High School head coach for basketball track and cross country and baseball. He will teach social studies. Otterbein serves about 175 students. He had briefly accepted a North Vermillion post but resigned to take Otterbein job. A Carthage High School and Ball State graduate, class of 1962.
Rev. and Mrs. Paul Boulton and family moved to the Christian Church parsonage Tuesday from Cincinnati Indiana. Rev. Boulton will begin his pastorate duties with Sunday’s service at the Christian Church.
The Carthage High School band, formed after many losses to graduation, finished seventh in its class at the Shelbyville Fair band contest last Saturday night. They earned a trophy and 25 dollars. Judges listed Class A results led by Anderson Highland, Franklin, Shelbyville. Class B top three Van Buren Town ship, Cowan, Waldron. Class C place order included Clay City, Anna, Dillsboro, Spiceland, Fillmore, Carthage at seventh.
The Carthage High School Band, directed by Bob L Edwards, is officially entered in the 1964 Indiana State Fair Farmer's Day Parade. The colorfully uniformed band performs before a crowd at 10 00 AM on Tuesday September 1. Prize money totaling 665 dollars is awarded by the Indiana State Fair and the Indiana Farm Bureau Inc as part of the fair August 29 through September 9.
The 1954 Class of Carthage High School marked their 10th anniversary on Sunday August 9 with a reunion at Riley Park Greenfield. A cooperative dinner and photo displays accompanied visits by invited guests and class members and their families.
Marine Lance Corporal Charles L. Gatewood and Marine Private First Class Vergil J. Hendershott took part in counter guerrilla and anti-submarine training off California. The drills, titled Operation Banana Peel and Exercise Bird Dog, ran July 10 to 17 aboard the Big Bear region and USS Yorktown to test strike, air defense, and subsurface warfare readiness.

Weekend guests of Mr and Mrs Dale May and sons included Mr and Mrs Luther Jackson of Churubusco Indiana and Mr and Mrs Ned Altekruse with children of Ft Wayne. On Sunday they attended the Jackson reunion held at the park in Cambridge City.

Purdue statisticians forecast Indiana 1964 corn yield at a record 89 bushels per acre as of July 1, with 4.6 million acres harvested and production up 2 percent from 1963 and 29 percent above average. Wheat oats barley and rye are expected smaller than 1963. other crops show mixed changes.
Among 82 seniors, Cathy Luann Ruby leads the class to receive diplomas Friday evening at Clowes Memorial Hall on the Butler University campus. Francis M. Hughes will give the address, Jack Hahn will preside, and cash awards will be given to top students. A reception and luncheon follow at Clowes Hall and Indianapolis Athletic Club.
Mr and Mrs Jack McLand and family from Detroit Michigan stayed with Mr and Mrs Norman Fuchs and their daughters as overnight guests last Thursday night.
