A three county peace rally sponsored by local church groups and farm associations will be held in Carthage on Sunday August 23 at 7 45 p m on the Friends lawn. The program features a speaker and a drama The Stranger Within the Gates directed by Miss Mary Lou Bentley urging residents to boost peace as world tensions rise since 1914.
County clerk Dale Fisher asks voters to verify registration at the Rushville courthouse. New voters, movers, and those with name changes must register. Indiana uses a permanent registration list if no residence or name changes occurred since first registration.
Carthage locals joined a Rush County caravan to Connersville for a Republican rally at Roberts Park. Col. Frank Knox and Raymond S. Springer spoke to an estimated 40,000 attendees, marking the event as Indiana's largest political demonstration. Participants from Carthage included A. J. Carr C. E. Wooldridge Bill Smock and Mr and Mrs Russell Parish.

The Public Service Company of Indiana will replace teen transformers to raise voltage from 2300 to 4600 volts, enabling wider feeder lines. The project costs about 5000 dollars, aiming to reduce storm outages and curb flickering from peak usage. New street lighting will auto operate from 30 minutes after sunset to 30 minutes before sunrise. Total changes and new equipment in Carthage run about 7000 dollars.
Work on the new water system began last week with the storage tank under construction. Structures are near completion and the tank should be finished in six to eight weeks. The ditcher advancing down Main Street has reached the corner by Dr. Miller's. Waterworks offices are in Winona Newsom's building with Miss Margaret Honiker of Ft Wayne as bookkeeper.

The Margaret Hill McCarter club of Posey township has changed its meeting to August 20 at the home of Mrs. Irvin L. Renegar.
Nelson's Hardware in Arlington was robbed by two young bandits around 10:30 am. Lowell Nelson, son of the owner Warren Nelson, was struck but not seriously injured. The pair escaped with about two dollars in change after rifling the cash register and left in a black sedan, with no trace found of the vehicle on state road 52.

Mrs Ertle Stevens suffered a broken arm after falling from her front porch when a swing chain broke as she sat down Monday afternoon.

The Rushville county wide event runs Thursday and Friday with premium prizes over 1500 for winners. Livestock displays include horses hogs dairy cattle beef cattle and sheep. Exhibits are staged at Kirkpatrick's Garage South Morgan Street and a large tent on South Main Street with amplifiers announcing winners.
The Ripley Homemakers club will meet on Thursday August 20 with host Mary Miner. Assisting hostesses will be Belle Ball Anna Phelps and Belle Phelps for the gathering.
