The Carthage public schools begin registration and the first day of work on Saturday September 4 with a 9 to 1130 session. Pupils must attend and will receive assignments and booklets. Books should be secured and ready for regular work on Monday September 6. a teachers meeting is set for 1 pm on September 4 to discuss plans for the year.

Windstorm Ravages Southern Henry County Damaging Property
A Friday afternoon windstorm swept southern Henry County causing extensive damage. A Kenard residence kitchen was carried a quarter mile, power outages darkened Kennard Shirley and Spiceland, a Bundy Griffin dry goods roof blew off at Spiceland, fruit trees and corn fields were harmed, a Suiggleman farm barn west of Spiceland collapsed under a fallen tree, and a Horace Burr barn near New Castle burned after a lightning strike, destroying 35 tons of timothy hay.

Native of Carthage for seventeen years, 52, dies at Indianapolis city hospital from skull fracture after being struck by a car driven by Norman F. Six. He started to board a street car at 14th and College. Survived by widow and daughter Frances, a Shortridge student, and sister Mrs Mary Hendricks of Knightstown. Big Four resumes trains with gasoline engine schedule
Beginning last Monday the Big Four railroad resumed its morning and evening passenger train schedule with a gasoline motive engine. J. W. Harradine, a civil engineer for the New York Central Railroad, was the guest of Mr and Mrs Charles S. Winslow, near this place, Saturday and Sunday. Two years ago, at Porto Rico, Mr Harradine performed an heroic deed in rescuing Russell Winslow, who was attacked by a barracuda while in swimming and lost one arm, his death occurring a short time later.

Winslow Sipe wed in garden style ceremony
Miss Claribel Sipe daughter of Mrs Anna Sipe and Ralph Bentley Winslow son of Mr and Mrs Charles S Winslow married at 8 o clock Wednesday night at the bride's mother's home officiated by Rev Albert Coil and Rev Charles S Winslow. The fireplace altar was fern lit with cathedral candles. Musicians included Miss Dorothy Sipe and Theron Coffin. The bride wore white gorgette with orange blossom head band and pink rosebud bouquet. They plan a short motor trip and will reside at The Locusts after September fifteenth. The bride is a Carthage High School and Miami University graduate and teaches at Waldron. the groom attended Ramham College and the University of Minnesota and is a banker and farmer.

Mrs Jennie Pitts wife of Wil iam F Pitts died shortly after midnight Tuesday at George Henley's home north of Straughn from tuberculosis. A native of the township born October 14 1871 she leaves husband three sons Jesse Worth of Hancock county and Gerald at home one brother Charles Henley of New Castle two sisters Nora of New Castle and Mrs Dayton Kyser of Dublin three half brothers Ed George and Russell. Funeral services were held at the Straughn residence then at Walnut Ridge Friends Church and burial followed.

Weathering a wet spell and windstorm across the county
A heavy rain Friday afternoon halted threshing until Tuesday noon. Temperatures rose to 90 degrees Wednesday and 75 by Thursday noon. A windstorm with lightning struck late Wednesday night, toppling small fruit trees and causing a downed electric wire near Scott Bicknell. telephone service was impaired briefly. Damage was limited, with rain hurting wheat in the country.
