Mrs. Charles Ann Mosier was discharged from Reid Memorial hospital in Richmond last Monday. She is glad to be home and requests no visitors at this time.
Robert Dhonan held his bachelor dinner at his parents home last Friday night for a group of friends.
Steve Hunt the son of Mr and Mrs Sharon Hunt and a Taylor University student will address Fletcher Methodist church in Carthage this Sunday August 7 at 1030 a m. He will speak on a topic to be announced at the service.
Richard Jackson and Randy McClurg, sons of local residents, are spending Sunday to Friday at Quaker Haven Camp for a short outing.
Mr and Mrs Bayard Baker attended a picnic and noon dinner meeting at Falls Park Pendleton for retired Remy factory employees. Mr Baker was the guest speaker.
Mrs Ida S Jones has entered Rush Memorial hospital from Cohee Nursing Home in Rushville. Mrs Stanley Hawkins, Mrs Herbert Weidner, and Mrs Milford Richmond also admitted for observation or care. Several other patients remain ill or improved at Rush Memorial. Mr and Mrs Marlin Branson and daughter Kay of Indianapolis with Miss Bernice Branson of Carthage left Monday for a two week Florida vacation.
Miss Janet Heim daughter of Mr and Mrs Clarence Heim returned Saturday from the Robert Long hospital in Indianapolis. She is getting along nicely.
A joint inspection of the Carthage 60 O E S with Knightstown and Raleigh is set for Saturday August 13 at Knightstown gym. A reception for Willard Avery Grand Chaplain will be at 4 p m followed by dinner at 5 45 with reservations by August 8 to Mrs Rachel King. Inspection begins at 7 30 p m.
Mr. and Mrs. Berry Manning of near Knightstown are the parents of a son born Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Lee of Carthage are the parents of a son, born Tuesday at Rush Memorial hospital.
The Town of Carthage publishes next year budget with property levy at 1 dollar 50 cents down from 1 dollar 56. Weekend visitors include Raymond Kennedy family and Lena Newsom in Marion. Mrs Newsom stays, others visit Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Charles Sullivan, 59, brother of Leonard Sullivan, died of a heart attack Wednesday night at his Lebanon home. Survived by brother Leon ard and sister Mrs. Maud Dennis of Dayton, plus several nieces and nephews. Body to be moved to Carmony Funeral Home Manilla for burial at Asbury Cemetery Morristown.
The Cyrus and Catherine Boring family met at Riley Park in Greenfield for an annual reunion with a noon basket dinner. Cecil Boring was elected president and Lewis Miller vice president for the coming year, Frances Holmes named secretary-treasurer. Four sets of twins attended among many relatives listed from nearby towns.
The 37th Talbert reunion occurred Sunday July 31 at Pitts Ford with a noon basket dinner and social hour. Officers elected for the coming year include President Howard Talbert Vice President Loren Talbert and Secretary Treasurer Mrs Lowell Adams.
Rex Hallom and Mrs. Hallom hosted a four generation family reunion at their Gwynneville home in honor of Mrs. Hallom’s grandparents Mr. and Mrs. H. C. White of Indianapolis. A covered dish noon meal and an afternoon of picture taking and visiting followed. Present were Mrs. White’s children and grandchildren including James B. White Aubrey White John Braden Wayne Morical Her bert Taylor John Maier Melvin Wilkinson Patricia White and Robert White.
Mrs Curtis Pollard of Indianapolis spent a few days last week with his daughter Mrs Paul Moore and family.
The thirty eighth annual Wicker reunion was held Sunday July 31 at the George Wicker Camp south of Fountaintown with sixty five present A pitch in dinner was served at noon and ice cream in the afternoon New officers were elected for the next year President Mrs Stacey Wicker Vice President Mrs Herbert Hill Secretary Treasurer Mrs L D Gordon Committees were named Refreshment Mr and Mrs Lee Jones and Mr and Mrs Harold Smith Place Bob Nigh Ed White Jesse Beyers Richard Hill Entertainment Mrs Herbert Hill Mrs Caryl Smith and Mrs W A Thompson Memorial services were read in memory of Esta Miller Elsie Rhodes and Frank Maulkey and a program by Rocky Rose and the Trail Dusters was presented from WCTW New Castle Numerous Wicker family members attended including Mr and Mrs Stacey Wicker Mr and Mrs Wm Wicker Mr and Mrs W A Thompson and many others. The next reunion is planned for Riley Park in Greenfield on the same date.

Mr and Mrs C O Kinnett of Sandusky Indiana visited Mr and Mrs James Terhune Saturday afternoon. Albert Terhune and family spent Sunday with Ban Shankland and family at Kendallville. Dean Gardner, son of Mr and Mrs Eugene Gardner, is a guest this week of Mr and Mrs Burney Jackson and daughter Julia at Rushville. Mr and Mrs Alvin Stapp called on Mrs Stapps uncle Bil Apple at the Methodist Hospital Indianapolis Sunday afternoon. Mr Apple is showing improvement. Miss Sue Ann Truitt spent the weekend with her sister Mrs David Magee in Bloomington.
Early Indiana saw several free Black settlements including Beech in Rush County. Leaders Kinchum Roberts and John W. Watkins guided caravans from North Carolina, with families like Peggy McDuffey and Rebecca Roberts among early settlers. They bought land from the government, built homes, and formed schools and churches by 1830.
Marion L Rhodes, 47, of Knightstown, Rush County, was found dead Tuesday morning from a self inflicted wound in his garage. The Hall Motor Company employee used a .22 rifle and was described as despondent over ill health. Survived by widow Dorothy Ramsey Rhodes, daughters Marlene and Susan Jane, and mother Lizzie Brooks Rhodes of Knightstown.
Mrs Hershy Henley of Terre Haute spent from Monday until Wednesday with her mother Mrs 8S L Newsom.
Carthage improved its Arlington Softball League standing Tuesday night by defeating Pittsburgh Plate Glass of Indianapolis 7 to 5. A four home run by Jack Tweedy enabled the locals to come from behind for the victory.

Carthage edged International 5-4 to climb to first in the Arlington Softball League as International dropped to third behind Knightstown. Arlington crushed Carrollton 9-0 in the second game with Gardner and Williams contributing triples for Arlington and Veatch adding two doubles for Carrollton.
Purdue University hosts the Tomato Field Day at ONeill Horticulture Farm near Lafayette on Monday August 8 from 1 to 3 pm. Speakers include Dr E C Stevenson on tomato seed certification, Dr Fred Warren on pre-emergence weed control, M L Tomes on breeding tomatoes with high vitamin content, Dr R W Samson on spray trials and tomato diseases, and Dr George Gould on tomato pests.
Miss Henrietta Nowotne of Shel byville was a weekend guest of Mr and Mrs Earl Nowotne. Indianapolis visitors Mr and Mrs Max Nowotne and son joined Sunday guests. Harold Arnold family of Gwynneville and Mrs Betty Brooks called afternoon. Arnold family headed to Fort Lauderdale. Mrs Maurice Brooks hosted a Stanley party with refreshments. William Castner and Stephen from Indianapolis vacationed and stayed with Fred Flick. Clara Delinger joined Don McColley for supper. Douglas Pierce of Tampa visited Carthage friends. Wilbur Pierce previously ran a Ruby Market corner grocery. Loyall Hunt weekended in Muncie with Leland Hawkins and son Mark. Hugh Roberts family visited Joe Roberts and son in Lebanon. Forrest Moore weekended with friends in Vevay. Julia McMichael did business in Cincinnati and Richmond last Friday and Saturday.
The Carthage softball team defeated Manilla 13 to 1 in the Rush County finals last Friday to earn a state tournament spot. Manager Ora Clayton saw a four run first inning with hits from Lynch Stephens and Edwards, plus errors by Manilla. Carthage added runs in the third fifth sixth and seventh, while Delmar Knecht homered for Manilla off a misplayed ball. Carthage had reached the final by beating Western Auto of Rushville and Arlington. Manilla advanced by defeating Shell Rushville International and Plum Creek. Carthage previously beat Arlington 8 to 3 last Thursday. Norm Morris pitched for Arlington as Carthage piled nine hits to Arlington’s five. The locals will compete in the Connersville District tourney next week. date and opponent to be announced.
