Dr. Allen G. Ireland urges parents not to fear barefoot summer play. He notes flat feet rarely result from barefoot activity, cites hookworm and puncture wounds as risks, and stresses timely tetanus prevention and antitoxin, with medical care for nail injuries.
Starting Sunday night September 1 at the Coliseum Indiana State Fairgrounds visitors will witness America’s finest and largest horse show with $18 750 in prize money the most ever offered at a horse show. John Bright Webb Indianapolis director in charge notes about $8 000 in premiums for Draft Horses and extra for 4-H workers. The fair runs August 31 through September 6.
The free county fair at Green Field opens next Sunday featuring Ducky Scott's Dare Devils performing motor cycle races trick riding auto polo and stunts with autos. Admission is 25c for the opening day with subsequent gate charges for autos. The week's program includes horse racing Hinkle's Rodeo show at night and other attractions.
Nearly twenty gallons of ice cream and stacks of cakes were eaten at a Saturday night social hosted by Friends and Christian churches on their lawn. The sale cleared 17.50 and was split between the two groups by materials contributed. Proceeds will fund delegates to the Rush County Youth Conference at Weakley's Camp from August 12 to 17.
The passing of Elizabeth J Hill removes a long respected community member. She had lived with her daughter in law Verna S Hill for seven years and is survived by E nineEeineneinenael Guyatt Dublin Miss Mildred White Lewisville Mrs Maurice Bell Greenfield and Mrs Mary Ann Jessup Westland.
Elizabeth Jarrett Hill born November 5 1934 devoted Christian and teacher who served as a school principal in Danville Indiana and as a longtime Friends church educator and mother figure to many, including Rowland who called her mamma, and she remained active in social and literary circles in Carthage. Her life embodied steadfast faith, service, and compassion.

The Farm Bureau gathered at the Christian church on Monday night for a meeting. The program opened with film reels tracing rubber from its beginnings to finished tires, illustrating the production journey.
The Chor al Club met at Mrs A J Carr Thursday July 25 with Mrs Maude Porter in charge presenting a nice piece of Spain music supplied by Mrs Carr and Jean Porter. Earlier talks covered Music of the New Russia Bach Festivals and Bands and Orchestras. Next meeting set for Miss Sharlee Kyser’s home this Thursday afternoon.
Central Indiana counties Henry and Hancock lead a 32 county zone celebrating a sixty day open season for squirrels starting August 1. Rush County in the southern area shows twenty nine days left for hunting. New law sets a five animal bag limit and prohibits certain kills. Transport across areas allowed only with proof of legal taking.
The boys 4-H club of the township will exhibit sheep hogs colts and dairy cattle at the Rushville fair on August 9. Demonstrations by township teams on August 10 include Producing Clean Milk on the Farm by Leon Cook and Jesse Addison. Parents and friends are urged to attend both days.
Courts uphold a 1826 treaty right of way along state highways with a 100 foot width. Landowners along the route contested the use but the decision supports widening shoulders and safer travel. About a thousand miles of highway right of way have already been widened to eighty and one hundred feet reducing accidents.
Virgil M. Simmons announces two new fire towers to guard millions of acres of timber. One rises in Brown County State Game Preserve near Belmont, the other in Clark county near Borden. More than twenty towers overall link to exchanges to speed alarm. Observers serve spring and fall when fires surge. Tourists also use towers for wide views.
The home talent entertainment "Ladies" For a Night" at the Auditorium Theatre Wednesday drew a full house. Fifty business and professional men sponsored by Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority presented a varied program with much laughter. The sorority cleared $34.65 for their cause.
A plan selecting state university colors for future license plates begins with 1936 plates honoring Indiana University. Plates will have cream numerals on a crimson background and 1937 plates will use Purdue colors. Plates are made at the Indiana State prison and remaining 1935 auto licenses may be secured at half price.
Friday August 9th marks achievement day for girls and boys 4-H clubs to be held in Rushville. Ripley Home Economics club plans twenty or more quarts of fruits and vegetables to be donated to Mrs Avery Rawls by Wednesday afternoon.
The Eleventh Citizen's Military Training Camp at Ft. Benjamin Harrison closed on Wednesday after operating since July 2. A total of 1,750 young men and boys laid aside arms and equipment and returned to civilian clothing.
The Shawnee Chief and radio announcer Tecumseh of Washington state will attend the Walnut Ridge Young People's Quarterly Meeting on August 11 at 7:30 p.m. All ages are invited to attend.
The W. C. Club reunion for Carthage is planned at Mrs. Raymond James’s Knichte home on Wednesday August. Only Mrs. Earl Addision and Mrs. Hubert Hill remain as local members. Threshing resumes after ten days of rain. Local elevator manager C. E. White reports wheat quality poor averaging 53 to 59. No. 2 wheat price at 83 cents per bushel for 58 or better.

Hannegan Church reports above average Sunday attendance with morning and evening services and a 9 30 Bible school. A whirlwind program of teaching and worship draws interest. Misses Hendrix Kennedy Gauthier and Maple return Sunday from a Rural Church Youth Conference in Bethany Park Brooklyn Ind. The annual community fair is planned for late August.
Fletcher M. E. Church reports the Rivervale Institute for the Epworth League in the Indiana Conference drew about 1400 registrants by Saturday evening. Rushville District led with four of five recognition contests, Yvonne Stewart won best poem, and 400 pledged to Christian life at the Sunday service led by Dr. Guy Carpenter. Participants from Rushville included Rev. N L Schoolfield Wade Walker Mary Walker Eunice Brookshire Marjorie Brown. Next Sunday features morning worship at 9 30 with talks by Rivervale attendees and a car group excursion.
Sixteenth annual twin reunion set for Sunday August 4 1935 at Memorial Park north of Newcastle. Event is free with attendees asked to bring table service for their group. Guests from far and near will attend with prizes for youngest and oldest twins. oldest organization of its kind in Indiana.
