The auditorium filled for the annual commencement exercises closing the school year. The program featured the I. S. and S. C. Symphony Orchestra under C. R. Deardorff, Rev. W. O. Trueblood addressing the class, and presentation of diplomas to fifteen seniors and certificates to thirty-three eighth graders by Principal Reynolds. Robert A. Winslow received the scholarship cup from Mrs. Parvel Moore.

Indiana state parks prepare for a record season with expected attendance around 1.25 million, a rise of about 50 000 from last year. More than two thousand picnic tables are painted and in use, water connected at fountains, firewood stacked near shelters, and trails and bridle paths ready for hikers and riders. Early visitors include thousands of school children enjoying outings as school ends and summer begins, with many returning for group camp sessions later.

Walter B. Hill remains in serious condition at an Indianapolis sanitarium after influenza two weeks ago. His brother E. N. Hill of Blaine Washington has been summoned to his bedside.
Rev. Cecil Haworth of High Point North Carolina Raymond Binford of Gilford North Carolina Lindley Clark of Washington DC and Mr and Mrs Lindley Clark and son Phillip of Muncie attended services at the Friends church Sunday morning Rev Haworth a former pastor gave a talk.
The Westland commencement exercises will be held Thursday night April 25 at eight oclock in the school auditorium. Rev D H Hammond of Richmond Ind will be the speaker. The class is composed of twelve members, the thirtieth class to graduate since the fourth year of high school was added.
Lum Foust, who had been ill for weeks, was moved to a private family home for aged men in Rushville for care and recovery.

The annual commencement dance hosted by Kappa Kappa Sigma was held Saturday night at the auditorium with one of the largest crowds. Don Maines and his orchestra provided music. Mrs. Claude Sipe led as general chairperson with active committee support. Proceeds benefit local charity.
Ethalinda Watkins widow of John Wesley Watkins died at her Beech Settlement home on April 18 1940 after a stroke. Funeral services were held at Market Street Christian church with Rev William Campbell and other clergymen present. Survived by three children five grandchildren one great grandchild one brother and one sister.
Mrs. Alvan Sohn came home Saturday from Methodist hospital in Indianapolis and is reported to be improving.
Greenfield owners Mr and Mrs L L Diamond announce the Cozy Lunch in the Newsom building at Main and Mill will open Tuesday morning. James Martin to manage. the renovated cafe offers ice water, free coffee on opening day, and full service including dinners lunches and short orders.
Mrs Robert Moore had an operation on Wednesday to remove her appendix and gall bladder. The procedure at Methodist hospital in Indianapolis proceeded satisfactorily and her condition remains improving.
Miss Norma Jean Fancher and Lowell Brown of near Henderson visited Mrs. Maude Stewart Sunday evening.
Miss Betty Schindler a senior from Berne Indiana has been chosen May Queen for Manchester College North Manchester Indiana. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Vilas Schindler and will reign over the May Day celebration on May 3. She has been active in many campus affairs.
