Hewitt and Wells Sentenced for Petit Larceny
Edward Hewitt aged 28 and Carl Wells age 18, both of Carthage, were sentenced to the state reformatory for one to five years after pleading guilty to petit larceny. They stole seven hens and a rooster from Ed Retherford’s farm, were arrested after attempting to sell the poultry in Mays and Lewisville, and confessed in Knightstown.

Funeral Services Held for Rushville Teacher
Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning at 10 for Robert A. Griest, Rushville high school teacher found dead Thursday. The St. Pauls M. E. Church service was led by Rev. C. A. Shake and Dr. J. G. Moore with L. A. Lockwood assisting. Burial followed in Pennville. Surviving relatives include his parents, Rev and Mrs. William Griest of Knox, three sisters Elizabeth Griest of Knox, Mrs. Robert D. Lahr of Lafayette, Mrs. Cliff B. Meadows of Terre Haute, and grandparents Ruben Griest of Lansing, Michigan.

Farm Home Near Rushville Destroyed by Fire
The Frank Warrick residence on the Sexton farm two miles west of Rushville burned Monday morning. Only part of two rooms’ furnishings were saved. Olin Seright sustained neck burns when the kitchen ceiling collapsed while moving a stove to safety. The Warrick family lost all clothing. furniture was partially insured. The dwelling, owned by Dr J C Sexton, was insured.

Baccalaureate services will be Sunday night April 26 at the Carthage Auditorium with Rev. Manchester of Wesleyan Methodist church as speaker. Music by the High School Glee Club directed by Miss Brindley. Commencement is Thursday night April 30 at eight at the Carthage Auditorium with Rev. O Herschel Folger of Indianapolis as speaker and music by the Rushville orchestra.

Hunt Visit At Spring Mill Park Near Mitchell
Mr and Mrs Hubert Hunt visited Rev and Mrs Schoolfield and their daughter in Mitchell on Sunday. They toured Spring Mill State Park two miles from Mitchell and observed an old stone grist mill with a 25 foot water wheel plus an early water powered saw. Clyde Elmer Ruby of Carthage is among 107 Indiana high school students eligible for the sixth annual state mathematics contest finals at Indiana University on Friday April 24. The group comprises sectional winners from across the state with 55 in algebra and 52 in geometry. medals will be awarded for first to third places in both divisions. Ruby will compete in geometry.

The annual Senior class play A Bird in a Cage was a great success last Friday night. Director Mr. Baker reshaped the last act and cast included Neri played by Maria Henley and Eva Comstock by Martha McManus. The program featured dances by Miss O Marn DeSchipper and violins by Miss DeSchipper with Miss Norris at piano. The production proved both dramatic and financially successful.
