Eva Herkless Dies at 91 in Carthage Home
Mrs. Eva A. Herkless, 91, longtime Rush County resident, died at 12:45 a.m. Saturday at 404 North Main in Carthage after years of illness. Born October 30, 1874, south of Mays to John M. and Artimiss McBride Simpson, she married John S. Herkless November 11, 1901. he died in 1946. Surviving are three daughters, a son, eight grandchildren, twelve great and great great grandchildren, a half sister and a niece. Services were held Monday at Wyatt Moore Memorial in Rushville with burial in Glen Cove Cemetery Knightstown.

Corydon, Indiana prepares for the first day sales event drawing 5000 visitors as the post office adds staff to handle mail cancellations stamps and first day covers. Deputy Postmaster General Frederick C. Belden will attend with Governor Branin hosting. a 11 45 luncheon precedes program at 1 30 p.m. The stamp designed by Paul Wehr Indianapolis features a blue yellow brown map of Indiana with the old capitol and a 5c denomination. 115 million stamps were printed.

Flanagan Aptitude Tests Given To High School Students
Under the Title I program all high school students except seniors were allowed to take the Flanagan Aptitude Classification Tests during the first three days of this week. The test battery includes 19 subtests such as Inspection Mechanics Tables Reasoning Vocabulary and Memory. Thirty seven occupational areas are offered for study. Tests are scored by SRA in Chicago and will be returned in a few weeks.
