Rural Youth Club Meeting Set for Tuesday Evening

Rush County Rural Youth Club will meet Tuesday April 19 at 7 30 p m at Jackson Township School. Shelby County Rural Youthers will attend as guests. Rev Frank Guyatt of Dublin will present colored movies including the 1955 Rose Parade and Rose Bowl game. Recreation and refreshments follow. Open to all county high school seniors and out of school youth.

Hospital Notes From Rush Memorial Facility

Mrs. Harry Leadbetter was returned to Rush Memorial hospital Tuesday and is progressing as well as expected. Mrs. Edgar Ruby was admitted for observation. Ralph McClarnon is slowly improving. Max Ellis of Knightstown, son in law of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ruby, had major surgery Monday and is recovering. Loren Dearinger of Rushville, brother of Mrs. Clara Delinger, had surgery Wednesday morning.

Fire damages window curtain at Hinshaw home

A fire at Mrs. Margaret Hinshaw’s residence Saturday afternoon damaged a window curtain and shade. Investigators have not determined the cause, but sunlight on a box of matches on the sill is believed to have started the blaze.

Kraft Buys Milk Plant at Lewisville In Indiana expansion

Kraft Foods Company completed the purchase of the Indiana Condensed Milk Company receiving station in Lewisville and acquired units at Peru Sheridan Lebanon Flora and Veedersburg. Emory Beam will stay as manager and Kraft invites local dairymen to become patrons while Eugene Leisure handles field operations and C L Witham oversees milk procurement in Indiana. Transfer took effect April 1.

Final Plans Laid For Auction Carnival

Rushville hosts an Auction Carnival at the livestock pavilion Rush County fairgrounds with antiques furniture baseball bats clothing fishing gear hogs paint and more. Proceeds fund the Rush County community swimming pool while food booths and a cake walk add flavor to the event.

Deliberate Breakage Strikes Carthage Public Fountain

A Carthage drinking fountain in the public square was broken last Saturday night by an unknown person using a heavy instrument. Sheriff Robert May investigated from Rushville. a local youth was questioned but no indictment filed yet.

Break-in at Knightstown recreation room on East Mill street

Thieves robbed the recreation room owned by Carl Wells and Cecil Mathers on East Mill street last Friday night. About $70 was taken from two pinball machines after a front door glass was smashed and a right lock unlocked. Town Marshal Hugh Trowbridge and Sheriff Robert May investigated. two local suspects were questioned but not held.

Death Takes Three Well Known Residents

Three local residents died recently including Mrs. Lula Augustine 71 at her home near Mays and William Dennis Sipes 76 of Maple Valley. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Augustine and Mr. Sipes at Knightstown and Wilkinson respectively with burial in Glen Cove cemetery and St. John's hospital in Anderson. Survivors for Mrs. Augustine include her husband Bernie Augustine and son Paul Parish plus grandchildren. Survivors for Mr. Sipes include his widow Della and ten sons and numerous grandchildren and siblings.
