The Camera Club invites members to a guest night with a pitch in dinner next Wednesday April 18 at the Community Center. Mrs David Grocox has accepted a post at Jacksons Nursing Home Rushville after leaving Clifton Nursing Home.
Rachel King president Carthage Unit Bertha Beck district vice president Norma McKain and Dora Ray attend the 10th District Auxiliary meeting at the Muncie Legion home for an all day session Evelyn Hurley district president presides a noon luncheon served by Muncie Auxiliary members with several department officers present.
Twenty pupils and four teachers from Shirley schools visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry L. Stinger on a Friday evening to learn about Indian lore.
Mrs. Elva DeWitt wife of David DeWitt Jr was at Robert Long Hospital Indianapolis on Tuesday for observation and tests in connection with medical care and monitoring by hospital staff.

The Rush County Election Board delivered two voting machines to the newly organized precincts in the School Building precinct 1 and Town Hall precinct 2. The public is invited to view and learn to operate them before the May 8 primary in Ripley township.
Finley Nelson remains hospitalized at Rush Memorial Hospital after a fall from his home roof. He is in a cast and doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances.

The Carthage Lions Club heard Kenneth Fields of Rushville discuss the present day school situation. He cited population growth, need for more teachers and classrooms, and federal aid issues, referencing a Indiana University survey. Talent Show and Smorgasbord plans were outlined and tickets started for sale.
Carthage High boys placed second at Morton on April 10 with Milroy first and Mays third. Kennard meet saw Carthage placing second in several events led by Neal, Overman, Parish and Smith while Watkins led hurdles. Basil Hedgecock visited Idaho Springs and local residents visited relatives in Willow Branch and Arlington.

Carthage High School officially enters the 1956 Indiana State Fair Band Parade and Contest to be held August 30 at the fairgrounds. The Carthage band, No 35, will perform under John Medjeski with about 50 members led by a drum major and baton twirler. Cash awards total 760 dollars for the top 23 bands, and spectators may watch from grandstand seats free of charge.

Also noted is a separate dinner hosted by Mr and Mrs Henry G Stager with guests from Rushville Carthage and nearby towns. Lee Bever was discharged from Henry County hospital to join his wife’s family after a tractor accident that caused a broken leg.
Gene Gardner's Holstein herd from Ripley township led Rush County Dairy Herd Improvement Association in March with 10 cows averaging 46.8 lbs butterfat and 1176 lbs milk over 30 days. Bearl Addison's Jersey herd of Rushville township was runner up with 46 lbs butterfat per cow. Other top producers include Leo Hoeing and son, Marbro Farms, William S. Kimmell, Sam Finney, Stanley-Carrington, Melvin Cole and Son, Jonas and Linville, and Emil Kuhn and son, across Holstein and Guernsey breeds. The DHIA reports 17 member herds, 319 cows, averaging 34.5 lbs butterfat per cow and 816 lbs milk.
Ertle Price of Rush County Agricultural Association received a Hall of Fame recognition at the Tenth Annual Rush County Achievement program held April 4 at Milroy High School. The dedication booklet named about 350 county winners and a framed Hall of Fame portrait will be displayed in the Rush County extension office. Price, a charter 4 H Council member for 32 years, was honored for long time service to 4 H Club work and local agriculture.
Barbara and Janet Bergman of Mt. Comfort won the district Share-The-Fun Festival at Carthage Community Center, earning a representation spot for the Indianapolis District in the June state festival at Purdue. The event featured nine acts including a close second pantomime by Decatur Township 4-H Club members and judges' remarks following a program MC William F. Smith.
Rev and Mrs Kenneth Vetters, soon en route to Sumatra as Methodist missionaries in May, will visit Fletcher Methodist church next Monday afternoon. They will meet church women and local members. Vetters is a Hancock County native. Mrs Vetters is from Detroit and they met at Asbury College where they married.

Carthage Lions stage a community talent show on Saturday April 21 at the Community Center. The event features a smorgasbord from 5 to 7 p m in the basement and a two hour show in the auditorium directed by Bob Pease with Western Band and other acts. Tickets 1 25 for all you can eat 75c reserved seats 35 and 50c at the door to attend an evening of family entertainment.
