James S. Conley and Eldon T. Ray of Ripley township arrive at Camp Wolters Texas to begin basic infantry training assigned to a rifle-focused battalion. IX Engineer Command Battalion in Germany notes T-5 Frank Blessinger of Carthage completed 31 months overseas service. Blessinger was a Container Corp employee before enlisting in June 1942 and now serves as a heavy equipment mechanic with the 826th Engineer Aviation Battalion building airfields for fighter bomber operations over the Western front. Mrs. Tom McClurg reports her son Pvt Ralph McClurg is in the Western Pacific and has a new APO number 86. Two Ripley Boys War Casualties In Pacific Theater
Mrs. Martha Fitch learns her son Jack, 26, was killed March 15 on Iwo Jima after enlisting in the Marines eight years earlier. He graduated from Tech in Indianapolis and Carthage High in 1936, leaving a mother, three brothers Rayburn Frederick and Wooten, two sisters Evelyn and Mrs. Ralph Erickson, and his father. Robert Weidman, radioman third class, drowned April 1 in the South Pacific. son of Eugene and Doris Weidman, seven miles southeast of Carthage. He served since December 1, 1943 and leaves a sister Ruth Weidman and other relatives. his body was recovered and interred on a Pacific island.

6000 Trout To Be Planted In Indiana Streams
