A reminiscence of Carthage in the early 1890s detailing visiting teams and park crowds for baseball, notable residents and guests, merchants, shops, and trades. It lists merchants, mills, bakers, dressmakers, blacksmiths, and milliners, plus vivid street scenes and relics like the first automobile seen in Carthage.
Indiana courts continue upholding the gross income tax law. Judge Joseph Williams sustained motions to dismiss for Meier Oil Co and Davies Oil Co after prior demurrers. The decisions mark the fourth time the law has been upheld, with earlier rulings for other companies and suits proceeding to the state supreme court.
The Senior Class play The Bus Girl drew a crowded audience at the auditorium theatre Tuesday. Bayard directed the production with all cast members from Weldon Hill to Betty Moore delivering standout performances. Betty Moore as The Circus Girl and Donny Copher as her husband showed top form, with Ray Knopp, Anna Mildred McClarnon, Roy Blessinger, Phyllis Rhodes, Violet Gardner, and Grace McGeorge among others earning cheers for their polished, professional turns.
The rest of the term runs to Friday April 20. Events include April 13 open house at 6 pm with program at 7 30. April 15 baccalaureate at 7 45 pm with Rev N TI Schoolfield speaking. April 16 junior senior reception in Shelbyville. April 20 commencement at 8 pm with Dr Arthur E Cowley delivering the address.
Last Monday event at a private dinner honoring April Dunn and Roy Newby drew nine women bearing baskets for a birthday gathering. Guests arrived to find a festive menu and place cards listing initials CDMNPRZ, signaling coded toasts for each attendee. The honor guests appeared startled yet pleased as the dinner proceeded.
The Rushville high school band swept the Fourth district band and orchestra contest held in Rushville last Friday and Saturday. The band won first division in Class B for the third year in a row, and also captured first in the marching competition among all eleven competing bands with Southport taking second. Winners qualified for the state band events at Crawfordsville next month.
The Ripley 4H boosters met at the school building Friday noon to elect officers. Officers named were President Roy Reddick Vice President Robert Addison Secretary Treasurer Paul Winslow Reporter Paul Winslow Secretary Treasurer Leon Cook Song and Yell Leader Wendell Clark with James R Behr appointed adult leader and Roy Reddick Jr leader.
Miss Mary Ellen McCarty and Miss Ruby McGeorge hosted a personal shower for Lucille Pitts Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 at the former’s home. Attendees included Bernadine Herkless Elizabeth Gatewood Sharlee Kyser Edna Newsom Frances Addison of Carthage Miriam Vankunner Rushville Ruth Reddick Indianapolis Jane Moore Muncie Louise Taylor Rosemary Rhodes Anderson with Mrs Stager and Mrs Pitts. Dainty refreshments were served and many presents were received.
A rough-cut figure inspired by John Barrymore, Eli Watt M D wins hearts of sick folk. Amid snow and storms a buggy brings him toiling to heal the ailing and ease aching hearts, with townsfolk pleading for divine aid through his arrival. Mrs Bayard Baker visits Pendleton Wednesday.

It highlights Twain Dickens Cooper Melville and others, plus the new Outdoor Indiana magazine covering state parks forests highways and conservation initiatives for readers to follow monthly.
B B Benner of Farmers National Grain Corp Indianapolis warns Pacific coast soft wheat, readily millable, is flooding interior markets via Pacific routes and Panama Canal to the Mississippi, depressing Indiana prices by about 12 cents a bushel. A Nashville meeting reported five million bushels have reached interior markets recently. Spring weather favors Indiana wheat growth. outlook unchanged unless conditions shift.
The Fletcher M. E. Church congratulates the 1934 senior class and reports activity this week. Services include Mid-Week meeting Thursday, Sunday's Sunday school at 9:30 and Morning Worship at 10:35 with Rev Schoolfield speaking on Undismayed. Farmers Night is planned for next Sunday. Two members are hospitalized for illness.
A local church records praise for Hariet Rawls Gordon and Alta Carr who sang a duet at the special program. The Women's Missionary Society plans a meeting next Wednesday afternoon led by Mattie Publow with Jennie Henley guiding the lesson discussion. The notice announces a Wesleyan Methodist Bible School starting at 9 30 with worship and a 10 30 sermon. There will be no evening service, but a Prayer and Praise service is planned for Tuesday at 7 30 p m. Test our welcome.
