Burgess Visits Carthage After Fifty Years
Frank Burgess of Ft. Oglethorpe Georgia, formerly of Carthage, visits Friday to Sunday for the first time in fifty years. He stays with George A. Winslow and family and attends a Sunday dinner with twenty-five guests at Hugh and Mrs Davis. His son Major General Lloyd S. Burgess is referenced as a military officer. He recalls Carthage's population, describes changes in business and housing, and notes past local industries. He plans to return to Ft. Oglethorpe by June 1.

Travelers Return from Florida Journey Covering 2100 Miles
Henry Stager Jasper Nigh and Walter Brooks arrived back in Mi ami Fla after a Sunday March 28 departure in Stager's car. They traced a route through Jacksonville Waycross Columbia Raleigh Portsmouth Newport News and Washington D C noting good roads except rain washed sand in Georgia. Brooks reports scant work since Christmas despite $17 daily plus overtime. New Year’s was cool for that climate and required fires.

Masked men rob Charlottesville telephone exchange
Two masked men entered the Charlottesville telephone exchange shortly after 9 pm Monday, struck operator Mrs Ora Lacy with a blunt instrument, tied and chloroformed her, then escaped with a little over $3 in change. Lacy recovered and resumed duties. she could not identify the assailants. Some strangers were noted in town that day.

Life Long Carthage Resident Expires At 79
Robert Hill aged 79 years 11 months and 23 days a Carthage resident died Saturday morning at 9 20 at home after a stroke of apoplexy suffered the prior Wednesday. Survived by a daughter Azel, he operated a tin shop and later sold it. He served in Co E Ninth Indiana Cavalry 121st Regiment in the Civil War mustered December 19 1863 at Richmond and saw engagements. Funeral Monday at two at his late home conducted by Rev J I Meyer with a quartet rendering Abide With Me. Burial in Riverside Cemetery. Funeral director W O Moore. Out of town mourners listed.

Beginning Community Sales in Carthage at Mill Street Site
The first in a series of spring and summer community sales will start Friday at 12:30 p m in the old planing mill on East Mill Street near the public square. Carthage Sales Co. runs the event with Button and Cross as auctioneers assisted by Glen Cross Evan Cross and Ray Moore. The sale uses the lower 70 by 40 foot floor with machinery removed and livestock pens built on the south side.
