Youth conference draws fifty six in Carthage interdenominational event
Last Friday and Saturday fifty six young people gathered in Carthage for an interdenominational conference. Charles R. Lizenby of Indianapolis spoke on Reaching Higher Levels. Discussions at the Methodist and Christian churches covered Prepared Self, Home, Church, and World Community. A recreation period, then a Christian church banquet, featured Rev. L H Maines as toastmaster and Rev. Dove of Waldron as speaker. The event ended with a friendship circle.

Basketball Boys Will Be Honored Dinner Set For April 7

Spring Exhibit and Program at Local School
The annual exhibit and program will be held at the local school building Friday from six to eight with the program starting at eight. All grades participate with numbers by the high school chorus and band. Grades perform varied acts from ballroom dancing to patriotic pieces. admission is free and the public is invited.

Mrs. Alonzo Kizer Dies at 78 in Jackson Michigan
Mrs. Alonzo Kizer aged 78 died Thursday morning at ten at her daughter Mrs. Leonard Ruby’s home in Jackson Michigan after three years of failing health. A Rush County native who lived in Carthage fifty years she was a member of East St Christian church. Survived by husband two daughters Mrs Ruby and Mrs Carrie Grimes son Jesse Kizer two granddaughters Lillian and Pearl Stinger a brother Lewis Bagley and eight grandchildren two great grandchildren. The body goes to Thompson Funeral Home with funeral arrangements pending.

Deadline Set for Quarterly State Gross Income Tax
The state reminds taxpayers that quarterly gross income tax returns for January to March are due by April 15. Director Gilbert K. Hewit notes rate changes do not take effect until January 1, 1942, with lower rates applying on the 1942 filing. About 100,000 forms mailed to past filers and 150,000 to auto license branches. Taxpayers with tax over ten dollars must file. exemptions are 250 dollars per quarter, with a retail merchant exemption of 750 dollars per quarter not in addition to the standard exemption.
