Monstrous Locomotives Run Through Carthage Rail Line
The Big Four operates new 8 10 type locomotives on nightly freight runs in Carthage. Each engine and tender weighs 500000 pounds and carries 15000 gallons of water and 20 tons of coal. They are 93 feet long and can haul 120 cars totaling 8000 tons. The Morristown Sun notes larger B O railways Mallet No 7400 engines in Indianapolis yards capable of 60 mph but limited to four and a half hour trips to Cincinnati. The No 7400 measures 105 feet, has 16 drivers, 18 000 gallon water capacity and uses about 10 tons of coal per trip. It hauled 132 cars for 5810 tons Indianapolis to Cincinnati and returned with 107 cars and 6133 tons in nine minutes between Arlington and Morristown. Combined engine and tender weigh 738000 pounds and produce 90000 pounds tractive force. Observe this monster as it rolls by.

Mrs Anna Evans Pollitt Dies In Gwynneville At 83
Mrs Anna Evans Pollitt aged 83 died Sunday at her Gwynneville home where she had lived seventy two years. A native of England she came to the United States at age five and married Alexander Pollitt in 1861. Survived by cousin Edward Evans of Gwynneville and relatives in England Canada and Illinois. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Disciples of Christ church in Gwynneville.
