Carrollton Wins First Round in Phone Rate Battle
A temporary restraining order blocked Southwestern States Telephone Co from raising rates in Carrollton. A hearing set for Friday will decide if the order becomes permanent. The city claims higher charges would exceed the Carrollton ordinance dating from Oct 20, 1959, and could net over $1,000 monthly in unauthorized fees. Local officials and about 2,000 residents opposed the rate hike.
