The town of Carrollton shows rapid growth with population nearly doubled in five years and new businesses expanding. Citizens urge a community house for public meetings, plus urgent needs for water supply, sewage, drainage, streets, and fire protection to support continuing development.
Community receives Blossom Time as a weekly program starting Monday with Youth Day events led by young leaders from Inlet Baptist. Roy Johnhy Worrmuck and others, including former Carrallton residents, preside. Sunday School and morning and evening services feature youth teams, opening program, and class instruction. The well-known operetta stars Tim Brownlee, Ann Andre, and Edward Kane in a staged, seasonal revival with tunes like Serenade and Bang of Love.
R A Sams was found dead on the Katy railroad about two miles north of Carrollton early Thursday by railway workers. He appeared to have died after a heart attack while likely riding toward the river in fishing attire. County officials and Rhipton Funeral Home were notified.
Mr and Mrs M. M. Twombe and daughter Nolan completed a long trip visiting New Mexico Arizona California Nevada Wyoming Colorado and Oklahoma. The family details indicate travel through multiple western states with sightseeing and family time noted across the journey.
Mary Perry, daughter of Menry Patty, married Bill Thompson, son of Mrs. Lynin Thompson, at the Tir Bopttat parsonage with Rev. Moore officiating. The bride wore navy attire with white accessories, and yellow corsage. After the ceremony the couple left for a trip through Sylo then returned to their Jackson Street home. Both are Cartleston Ligh Reboot graduates and longtime locals.
Miss Pat Meador, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ray Meador, stepped in front of an approaching car driven by Billy Ray Jacobs Friday evening near Good's Drug Store and was struck. She sustained bruises and minor injuries but was conscious. A graduate of Carroll high School she worked at Sear Roebuck in Dallas. Mrs Annie Davis of Dallas is shown as next of kin.
New officers for the Lions Club were installed Thursday night by M. B. Roach of Fort Worth. John L. Mitchell became president, Leon Weatherly and W. M. Young shared vice presidency with H. L. Mimumey, Roy Povey as tail ruler, C. C. Lovelace as secretary, Burnett Parry as treasurer, and Abe Godfrey and Marvin Loving named new directors. Glen McDoneld will print the Tail Twister. Former president Gene Langley received thanks for his term. the club noted July rodeo, Halloween Carnival, perpetual care for Perry Cemetery, and a new gas mowing mower presentation to the cemetery association.
Capt Hartline and Capt Marshall J Marine at Wendover Field Utah join a 15 day active duty training with the Army Air Forces. More than 1 000 officers from Hensley Field will be activated for a summer program designed to acquaint RAF flyers with current developments. They will participate in a full scale operations program while at Wendover and return home on July 1.
Wallace reports receipt of one carload of mandust and twenty bars of poison plus a new shipment of bronze for grasshopper control. He says infestations are worse than in years past and urges farmers to use these products promptly.
Mr and Mrs Paul Kerr were Sunday evening guests of Mr and Mrs W Fyke at their home. conversation and hospitality marked the social visit.
The Dallas Post 1887 Veterans of Foreign Wars sponsors a second annual Fourth of July rodeo at Josey’s Rancho with a parade on College Avenue and a mammoth procession featuring cowboys and horses. Winners receive a 199 Super Deluxe Ford Tudor in a free barbecue. Entries welcome. events include rodeo, horse show, and a horse show as part of a planned national celebration in Garrettton.
Leland Reneau and his wife purchased the Enock Shop and Car rollton Feed Store from Ellis Roy last Thursday. Plans include curb service with a park and flood lights for evening operation. The Snack Shop opened early in the year by Joe Brout and Gracy Brookshire and changed hands in April.
The WMA of First Baptist Church met Monday afternoon with Mrs Owen as hostess for the Royal Service program. Mrs Tom Hasley opened, with singing led by Mrs E B Robertson and discussions on The American Negro. Talks by Mrs Baul ey, Mrs Bob Patterson, and Mrs Earl Bikiles covered Baptist topics. Refreshments were served by Mrs Ini Towsley. Upcoming events include a July entertainment by Mrs Earnest James and a wedding for Miss Cromer and Mr Shafer tomorrow evening at Union Baptist Church.
Americass Lopson Poot 597 elected officers for the coming year Tuesday. Installation date not set. Officers include Ray Loving, Ray Miller, Philip Carver, B D Renfro, OG Chambers, O F Godfrey Sr, A Denison, Roy Mitchell. Post aims to complete Legion Hall building and boasts a successful ball club led by Amos Shafer with Teague 40 Tarane near championship prospects.
Equalization Board will meet tomorrow at one oclock in the high school building. Miss Sara Myers hosted a swimming party at Vickery and a clubhouse gathering on Carroll Street last night, with Marshalleen Shafer Betty Lou Stanley Sammie Jo Davis from Farmers Branch and Mary Edith Bailey of Carrollton joining. Mrs Darrell Myers accompanied the girls.
