Mile of Lights thanks Carroll volunteers and sponsors
The Carroll Chamber of Commerce expresses sincere gratitude to businesses, organizations and individuals who funded and supported Carroll's Mile of Lights after rooftop lights were deemed unsafe. City help, local meals, electrical donations and volunteer firemen replacing old bulbs saved thousands. Please support the Firemen's Ball on Saturday, Nov. 3.

National Character Counts Week Highlighted by Community Meetings
The Carroll SAFE Coalition and area schools promote Character Counts with Six Pillars of ethical values and urge local adults to model and teach character. Informational meetings are set for Oct 22 at Carroll High School commons from 4 40 to 6 pm and Oct 25 at the Bishop Greteman Center from 5 to 6 pm.

Manning Community Chest Drive Under Way This Week
Manning volunteers canvass Manning and surrounding areas as the 2001 campaign aims for 12000 dollars. A special donation supports the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for Sept 11 victims. Drive chair Burke Johnson and co chair Tena Gifford lead the effort.

Banks sponsor 4 H highway banners in Carroll County
Two large banners along Highway 30 at Main Street in Carroll promote 4 H in Carroll County. Installed last week for 4 H Week they feature the 4 H logo and the slogan the power of youth. Ann Pettebaum, youth program manager for Carroll County Extension, thanked Farmers State Bank at Harbur First National Bank at Manning and Templeton Savings Bank for sponsoring the banners.
