First Carroll Boy Slain in Action in World War I
Casper Holland of Tinlett died in action on May 21 with the 10th Infantry, Co C, after volunteering April 10, 1917. He served in France from June 1917 and sent letters home to Carroll County readers. The Holland family received official telegrams confirming his death.

Henry L. Cole Dies Suddenly in Mandeville
Henry J. Cole died suddenly around 8 o clock at his home in Mandeville at age nine. He was buried at Pleasant View after a Missionary Baptist funeral led by Rev. J. M. Davison who had baptized him twenty five years earlier. He is survived by his wife Annie Cole and nine children including George Krank Gilbert County Quil, and daughters Mrs. J. T. Jones Mrs. J. A. Hall of Mandeville Mee Charlie Boswall of South Georgia and Mrs. T. P. Bonner of Cullman Ala. A second infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Bonner died Wednesday. The child’s funeral was held at Pleasant View.
