Secretary of State Philip Cook drew his requisition for apportioning 128000 plus dollars from automobile tag taxes to Georgia counties. The distribution bases on miles of improved roads, with counts listed for each county and the toll rate noted as 1999.65 dollars per mile.
Washington D C June 9 Messrs T S Plowman president and J A Rountree secretary of the Bankhead Highway Association have been in Washington five days in the interest of the highway linking Virginia North and South Carolina Georgia Alabama Mississippi Tennessee Arkansas to Los Angeles They met Senator Bankhead and congressmen to discuss support and military road status for the route They called on Secretary of War Baker and Secretary of Agriculture Houston to seek cooperation Plowman to return to Alabama soon and a meeting of the executive committee will be set to plan the pathfinding tour to officially locate and designate the Bankhead Highway from Atlanta Birmingham and Memphis Rountree will tour Virginia North and South Carolina visiting towns and organizing branches
Fire alarms were turned in when the residence of Dr. W J Fitts caught fire Monday evening at about rock. Prompt response by the firemen extinguished the blaze with damage estimated at about 45. Earlier Monday at about two o clock a stove overturned in the home of Mr E B Yanvey. prompt work saved this home from serious damage with little loss.

Twenty one loads of Irish potatoes have been shipped from Moultrie this season at an average price of 2.50 per bushel or more than 1000 dollars per car. Grower Dave reports splendid profit as potatoes can be grown profitably with roughly one dollar per bushel. This year marks the first sizable trial and growers plan a much larger planting next year.
Miss Lena Baskin died after a lingering illness at her parents home on Mill Street. The funeral took place Thursday afternoon. She leaves many friends and relatives to mourn her death.
