At a meeting the Annie Wheeler Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy formed a committee to confer with veterans about building a chapter house in Carrollton. The panel includes Mrs. George Cheney, Mrs. A. C. Hale and Mrs. J. R. Styles.
J N Pierce of Hickory Level died last Monday at about 70. He leaves a widow, several children, and many relatives. Grandson Sam Boggs of Carleton. Interment was at Concord Tuesday afternoon with funeral services by Rev. L P Huckaby.
Miss Myrtle Tatum and Mr. Joe L Veal of Roopville wed Wednesday afternoon at Rev L P Huckaby s home in Carrollton. The bride, daughter of Rev and Mrs R P Tatum, is noted for charm and accomplishments. Veal, of Veal Co., is a prominent Roopville businessman. The couple left for a brief wedding trip and will reside in Roopville after returning.
The Ladies Aid Society of the Presbyterian church met last Wednesday evening with Mr. Harry Burns presiding. Readings by Miss Margaret Simonton and Mrs. George Head and a duet by Mr. and Mrs. Gaissert highlighted the program. The pastor spoke on Our Field and Our Opportunity noting per capita giving and missionary figures.

Mrs Ada Hardaway files suit in city court seeking 40000 for the death of her husband W J Hardaway who died from gasoline fumes after entering a tank near Mapte street crossing on December 6th. Standard Oil Co and local agent J H Croft are named as defendants for alleged negligence in allowing entry within 48 hours of tank emptying and for not providing a rope and life belt. Trial set for June before Judge Beall. Roop Fielder and S Holderness for plaintiff. King Spalding Underwood and local counsel for defendants.
The tax receiver contest opens with incumbent A. E. Nix seeking re election and challenger W. M. Chambers. Both hailed as capable, each has broad local support, and neither is expected to run away with the race.
Holiday observance shifts banks to close on Monday February 23 in recognition of Washington's Birthday. Public notice urges customers to plan future banking accordingly.
Public notice directs rural postmasters and carriers to require that all first class mail deposited in rural boxes be stamped before deposit. If stamping is impractical coins for stamps should go into receptacles, not loose or wrapped. Publicity should be given without expense to the Department.

At First Baptist Church Carrollton a Sunday evening program featured Homer B. Adams city schools superintendent Sidney Holderness local attorney and Carrie Villard Girl's high school teacher. The event sought to bond Home School and Church through shared purpose and mutual sympathy.
The Southern Presbyterian church proclaims next Sunday a Day of Prayer for young people in schools and colleges with services at 11 a.m. on the theme Christian Education and 7 p.m. on The Unpardonable Sin. a prayer meeting is planned for Wednesday February 25 at 7 15 p.m. on The Seven Devils of Revelation I Cor 10 31.
Miss Odessa Keith died in a Atlanta hospital after a period of declining health. Her funeral was conducted Sunday by Rev. L P Huckaby at Stripling's Chapel cemetery. Her mother brothers and sisters receive community sympathy in this bereavement.
Georgia and the nation mourn United States Senator Augustus O. Bacon who died last Saturday in Washington. Bacon served as chair of the foreign relations committee and shaped policy on Japan and Mexico during crises. A Confederate boy soldier turned statesman, his career spanned three six-year terms and he was the first directly elected senator under a constitutional amendment. Ceremonies occurred in Washington and Atlanta with burial in Macon. Governor Slaton will appoint a temporary successor, with Clark Howell likely to receive the post amid a Tangled 1910 Georgia senatorial race.
Tabernacle Baptist Church will preach Sunday with morning and evening services by Rev. J. J. Oxford. The 11 am sermon is The Plea of the Afflicted Child and the 7 30 pm sermon The Magnitude of Grace in the Christian Heart. A large choir and cordial welcome for visitors.
