Senator Smith pushes vocational education for wounded soldiers

Washington notes Senator Toke Smith of Georgia plans to push federal legislation and mobilize government agencies to provide vocational training for maimed soldiers returning from the war. Dr Henderson to Arrive Next Tuesday

Dr Henderson and family plan to reach Carrollton next Tuesday and stay at 52 Maple Street with Mr and Mrs O K Menderson Jr awaiting settlement. Rev Henderson leaves Commerce after two and a half years to become pastor of the Carrollton church. He is praised for uniting communities and supporting Indians in his church work.

Patriotic League Sends Quilts to Camp Wheeler and Fort Oglethorpe

The Patriotic League displayed knitted comforts at Maple Street and College Street schools. Quilts by the Margaret Wilson Chapter and the High School unit, coordinated by Mrs. Crider and Mrs. Lu, will be sent to Camp Wheeler and Fort Oglethorpe base hospitals.

Carrollton Youth Earns National House Appointment

On the recommendation of Irons W. A. Wright, Master Wooten Snead of Carrollton, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Snead, received a page appointment in the National House of Representatives. Wooton, accompanied by Mrs. Snead, left for Washington Wednesday. He is praised as one of the brightest boys and is to be congratulated on securing the appointment with large opportunities.

Mrs. Mary Jones Dies at 72 in Local Home

Mrs. Mary Jones aged 72 passed away Thursday morning at the home of her husband T. C. Jones near Mandeville Mills. The funeral will be Friday at 11 o clock from the residence with Rev. Joxee M. Dod officiating. Burial will be in the city cemetery. Survived by two sons Charley B. Jones and T. C. Jones both of this city and a daughter in South Georgia.

Death of a Good Citizen A P Bryant in Howdon

Obituary notes the death of Bro A P Bryant at his Howdon home on a Thursday night in January. He is mourned as a loyal Bowdon citizen and Bowdon Baptist Church member since 1894. funeral services were held Friday at the church where he served for twenty three years. Hulett Hall Richards Volunteers for Service

Editor Free Press reports Hulett Hall Richards enlisted in the U S Army on December 11 last and joined the Quartermaster Corps. He is stationed at Camp Johns Jacksonville Florida. A questionnaire dated December 31 was misfiled by his brother T W Richards due to family strain. the note affirms Hulett Hall Richards is not a slacker.
