A roster lists men called for examination on February 8 and 9 and February 12 and 13. Names include William C. Roop, Lennie Hicks, Edgar Johnson, A V Mize, Leo Audleson, Henry Harper, and many others among the Negroes and whites. The list covers numerous individuals across dates with distinct entries for February 8 and February 9.
Washington notes Senator Toke Smith of Georgia plans to push federal legislation and mobilize government agencies to provide vocational training for maimed soldiers returning from the war. He urges study of foreign programs and calls for self-sustaining work for veterans in army and navy as the nation prepares for the postwar period.

Dr Henderson and family plan to reach Carrollton next Tuesday and stay at 52 Maple Street with Mr and Mrs O K Menderson Jr awaiting settlement. Rev Henderson leaves Commerce after two and a half years to become pastor of the Carrollton church. He is praised for uniting communities and supporting Indians in his church work.
The Patriotic League displayed knitted comforts at Maple Street and College Street schools. Quilts by the Margaret Wilson Chapter and the High School unit, coordinated by Mrs. Crider and Mrs. Lu, will be sent to Camp Wheeler and Fort Oglethorpe base hospitals.
On the recommendation of Irons W. A. Wright, Master Wooten Snead of Carrollton, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Snead, received a page appointment in the National House of Representatives. Wooton, accompanied by Mrs. Snead, left for Washington Wednesday. He is praised as one of the brightest boys and is to be congratulated on securing the appointment with large opportunities.
Mrs. Mary Jones aged 72 passed away Thursday morning at the home of her husband T. C. Jones near Mandeville Mills. The funeral will be Friday at 11 o clock from the residence with Rev. Joxee M. Dod officiating. Burial will be in the city cemetery. Survived by two sons Charley B. Jones and T. C. Jones both of this city and a daughter in South Georgia.
Obituary notes the death of Bro A P Bryant at his Howdon home on a Thursday night in January. He is mourned as a loyal Bowdon citizen and Bowdon Baptist Church member since 1894. funeral services were held Friday at the church where he served for twenty three years. His widow and children bear witness to a life of faith and fidelity.
J W Stone Clerk notes some patriotic citizens names appear in the delinquent list for unreturned questionnaires. C B Boyd chief of Villa Rica police is named, but he mailed promptly and it failed to reach the Local Board. Enlisted men also missing questionnaires face publication to ensure compliance with the law.
Crowds at H. M. Tyus store in Carrollton persist as buyers praise discounted shoes and clothing. The article credits Mor H. Tyus for a recent Atlanta shoe deal, claiming savings of 50 cents to 1 dollar on children’s shoes and 1 to 2 dollars on men’s and women’s pairs.
Editor Free Press reports Hulett Hall Richards enlisted in the U S Army on December 11 last and joined the Quartermaster Corps. He is stationed at Camp Johns Jacksonville Florida. A questionnaire dated December 31 was misfiled by his brother T W Richards due to family strain. the note affirms Hulett Hall Richards is not a slacker.
Carrollton Georgia reports 24 758 bales ginned in Carroll county from the 1917 crop prior to January 1 1918 versus 26 269 bales by January 18 1917. Special Agent CHAS W WOOD notes figures.

The friends of Mr Hulett Hall Richards announce his appointment as assistant postmaster at Camp Johnson Tackgonville Kin where he was sent last fall after enlistment.
County demonstration agent F T Jackson reports farmers in Carroll County have applied for 740000 pounds of government nitrate of soda. The deadline for nitrate applications has passed.
The Villa Rica Auxiliary sent 19 sweaters 14 socks 1 helmet and 1 pair wristlets making 20 knitted items plus 23 Christmas kits. The Roopville Auxiliary plans a class next week in Standard Dressings taught by Mrs. W d Millican. The new Roopville group has over 100 members and Standard Dressings courses are led by Mrs I K Smith Miss Janet Slade and others to meet war service hospital standards.
