The region mourns as veteran Homer Davis dies at 75 after consuming carbolic acid in Carlisle. Mrs. Sarah Collins, aged 79, dies on her farm near Carlisle after a long life of service to family and church. Funeral rites for Davis are held while Collins’s biographical sketch highlights six decades on the same farm.
Homer Davis, an elderly veteran, ingested carbolic acid Saturday morning amid a despondent mood. He was found by a relative and rushed to a hospital for treatment. Authorities investigated no foul play and no exact motive was reported.
Sarah W. Collins, a longtime pioneer resident, died Tuesday morning at her home east of town. She was known for her community involvement and family roots in the area. A funeral service will be held at the local church with burial to follow in the adjacent cemetery.
